Solutions are mixtures composed of a solute and a solvent. The solute is the substance present in a lower amount, and the solvent is the substance present in greater amount. A hypotonic solution example is salt water.</p><p><br>2. An isotonic solution refers to <strong>the state when two solutions have equal concentration of solutes across a semipermeable membrane</strong>. This state allows for the free movement of water without the dilution of solutes on either side and keeps cells functioning properly.</p><p>3. A hypertonic solution is <strong>any external solution that has a high solute concentration and low water concentration compared to body fluids</strong>.
