We encountered cyber-bullying not only against pupils to pupils, but also pupils to teachers. This is great threat and problem. First of all, we taken screenshots of when, how and by who the bullying post is made. After that, we tried to remove that post ASAP, contacted school administration and social education teacher to make further steps. It is great problem, because sooner or later bullying may go from virtual space to real world.

Because of the age of my students there are no cases of cyberbullying, but I consider that they should be taught about even before it happens, of course using examples that would make possible for them to understand the consequences. Is always easier to prevent than to heal.

Yes, I've already encountered this kind of issue. It is very difficult to approach, because it is often diminished by reference adults (parents and teachers).
We usually take specific lessons about cyberbullying and bullying to sensitize the classmates and we talk with the victim and with the bullies. Unfortunately bully's parents defend their son.

Recently I have had to face a case of cyberbullying: one of my students is vegetarian and her mates, to make fun of her, sent her a video in which a pig is running in the middle of a field and some people are shooting at it from a tower, it is their target and they laugh when they hit it. My student cried and was offended by the video so I summoned all the class and we spoke about the case. The offenders apologized with her.

We have encountered in our school with such behaviour. Pupils made pictures and videos and shared it on social networks. But, after parents and teachers reacted they deleted it. We invited parents to school and they had talk with teachers and pupils. Parents took their mobiles away and pupils were punished with warning. I think that parents need to be more informed about social networks, cyberbullying and other risks and they need to pay more attention about what their kids do when they are online.

Yes, this year but not in one of my classes. A boy has been bullied and didn't want to come to school anymore. No teacher has understood the situation before it got worse. Thanks to the student 's parents who talked to the teachers, they could face the issue. At the beginning they had some lessons to let students discuss about cyberbullying and bullying in general, then they invited some experts to talk about it. It was very useful and significant for students.

Unfortunately I had a situation of collective cyberbullying at my class of students. They all got upset on one of their colleagues and started cyberbullying her. I had long discussions with them at first, I also delivered thematic classes, eventually met their parents and had together with parents and students other long discussions. I haven't encountered cyberbullying as such however I do know that it goes on perhaps with older children, so I advise my pupils to always talk to a trusted adult should they encounter anything that might make them feel uncomfortable, upset or sad while they're on the internet. Another thing I emphasise on is the fact that they need to remember that it is not their fault that they are being bullied and nobody is going to be upset with them.

We had a case of cyberbulling at our school this year. Someone created an Instagram account pretending to be one of our students. On that account he uploaded photoshoped images of the victim.

First we had a conversation with the parents of the victim. After that we gave them guidelines in order to:
a) keep evidences of the fact, b) report the impersonation account by filling out the form provided by Instagram,
c) report the impersonation account to the Hellenic hotline.

Last year I had quite a few students who were determined to become you tubers as soon as possible. I had a particular student who was around 9 years old and who said that he has uploaded several videos on you tube. This student was very upset during one of our lessons as he said that there was a particular person who posted some nasty comments about his video. This student seemed to think that he would only get positive feedback and comments.

Together as a class, I helped students consider the importance of thinking before posting something online, of how what we post is on the internet for good, and even though we can delete it from our profile, others may still have access to it. I also helped students to realistically think of how many people become rich and famous overnight by becoming you tubers and we discussed who they can go to for help if they are victims of cyberbullying

Several classes at my school are involved in cross-curricular projects about bullying ( and cyberbullying), not because any particular problems have already arisen but because prevention is better than cure. As part of their project, one class of 16-17 year-olds acted out and filmed a sketch they had written themselves about a pupil who gets bullied and seeks advice from teachers on how to deal with it. I think it was very effective, both for the viewers of the video and for those who made it. Especially as it was done by their peers.

Last year one of our student posted a photo of a monkey on whatsapp followed by a rhyme insulting his schoolmate. Soon we asked him to remove the post and the photo. We met his family only to discover that for them it was considered a simple joke withouth considering the other boy sorrow for the photo. They need to be educated, about the matter. Parents of both our students met at school to discuss and solve the problem and the children had to experiment the real meaning of being in the other shoes

Unfortunately, in our school there was a case of cyberbullying. One case is when pupils made a group on a facebook that insulted one child. The second case we had with the Viber application where the pupils also made a group that they ridiculed their colleague. Fortunately, in both cases, everything was fine. In our vocational school where people are over the age of 16 we sent a validated questionnaire of Cyberbullying and fortunately realized that thre was not any case of cyberbullying but when we spread the questionnaire between our chikdren and their friends (ages between 12 and 18 from two different school) we noticed that there were three cases of possible cyberbullying what caused worry about this situation and talked to the school staff in order to communicate what the test discovered.

I conducted the survey in my school in 6th,7th and 8th grade and the results showed that some of the experienced cyberbullying form others they know or from some "strangers". My first question was "How did you feel ?" and "What did you do?" I have not experienced it in the work place - but I do not work in a school. I can relate personally though as my young cousin was cyber-bullied and it led to an eating disorder. It took sometime for her to feel comfortable sharing what the cause was - six months of what seemed to be unruly, out of character behaviour as she pushed everyone away and tried to further isolate herself.

Immediate family just could not get through, and I am honoured that she trusted me. We went to the school to talk to her teachers - with her consent and she accompanied us to give her some control and then went to the GP.

The difficulty was tackling the issue without making it worse as so much damage had been caused. A lot of the messages were anonymous or from fake profiles but there was a specific group who were online&offline orchestrating a character assassination.

We spoke about the importance of empathy and the consequence of words; the way that people who are uncomfortable in their own skin project on to others.

She is in therapy still (three years on) and we take each day at a time.

Yes, i got to know about a cyber bullying attack of one of my upper class student against a lower class kid outside the school. One of the group pinched the cap of the younger boy and when he asked it back he was beaten with fists and kicks while another guy was filming away with the clear intention to publish the bullying online. Cyberbullying and the term "bullying' is a term overly used used by our high school pupils and when explored is generally not bullying. We use a variety of preventative method and encourage teaching pupils the difference between bullying and what is being unkind or a one off incident.

However, there have been instances of pupils receiving repeated malicious messages from peers. Often things they wouldn't say to their faces, but the bullies find it easier over messages. This can have serious effects on the individual being bullied, causing low self esteem, changes in interests, and depression.

When dealing with these situations, we would consult our school policies and procedures. These may include the Acceptable Use, Anti-bullying and Behaviour and Discipline Polices.

Our primary mechanism is to provide support networks for the individual, encouraging them not retaliate and praising them for disclosing. We will them follow up an investigation using any available evidence to deal with and support the bully (could be anonymous) to understand their triggers for bullying and the effects of their behaviours.

One of the biggest challenges that I have faced concerning social media and cyber bullying is when the crime is students "doing nothing"...
An example of this is when a classmate posts a photo of his breakfast on Facebook or Instagram and gets a number of likes and one week later another student posts a similar photo and gets no likes. Sometimes this turns out as a popularity contest, and even though it could happen to anyone I sometimes feel that students do this intentionally to give status to popular students and to diminish those who don't get any likes. But to change this is a difficult task.

Yes, we do have cyberbulling in our school. We always investigate each case, we communicate with parents and we organize events for students and parents. In the school I was before we participated in the eSafety Label project and we got the gold label for our activities. The whole school approach helped teachers, students and parents to overcome difficulties and to learn more about cyberbulling.

Unfortunately, this picture was then shared through whatsapp group and seen by almost every one in the school. It was an unpleasant situation. The girl felt harassed and shamed. We carefully investigated the case and found out the student responsible.
Since then, we are interested in "digital citizenship" and e-safety. We are currently organizing some activities to raise awareness among students.

In my school, we had the case that, when enrolling a new generation of students, one of our future pupils, reported mistreatment to the FB. His daughter verbally attacked the students of the older classes, threatening to attack her when she appeared in school. We reported the case to the police and the Department of Technological Crime, and we also reported to FB. Everyone responded quickly, the parents of the girls who threatened the girlfriend were invited to talk to the police! However, the situation was much more complicated than it looked at first. And the attacked pupil was verbally and physically attacking our pupils earlier, so they only responded. In the meantime, the new schoolchildren also made some violations, so the entire family moved to another city! The pupil in essence never exceeded the threshold of our school.

My students are 12-16 and cyberbullying cases have occurred. In those situations, I have actually done some of the things that Alex Holmes recommended: listened to them, asked them to save the evidence and told them not to retaliate. And, of course, I tried to build on their negative experience to learn what not to do: don't share your passwords with friends, never forget to log off a public computer, disregard negative comments on your posts, don't blindly believe any online "friends" you don't personally know, things like that. And the most important lesson of all: it doesn't only happen to other people.

Yes, I have encountered an issue related to cyberbullying in my ex-school. A student offended another with compromising pictures. Unfortunately, this picture was then shared through whatsapp group and seen by many people from the school and town. The girl felt harassed and shamed and she was a lot of time sad. I informed parents, I talked with the victim, I supported her and I recommended psychological support, specialized. I talke with my hole class about subject and the cyberbullying dangers and the best lesson: don't trust anyone!

I had a problem with two girls (14 years old). They had a crush at the same boy, so one of them posted a humiliating photo-shopped picture of the other on the facebook. They argued after that in person. The story always has two sides, there is always something behind it. I talked with the girls, separately and together, to solve the problem. The school experts were very helpful too.

Last year, some of the students opened a group on facebook under the name of a student. There they put their different photos that they had and underneath each made "meme". Some years ago we encountered a cyberbullying when the Hi5 online chat platform was very popular. A group of same aged students used to spread lies and make fun of students who used to participate and work hard. The issue was tackled swiflty internally by the school administration by closing their Hi5 accounts, making a public apology to the students and notifying the parents. The newly established cybercrime unit was also involved to provide information sessions and eyeopener tutorials with students, educators and parents. This was one of the first cyberbullying cases the cybercrime unit dealt with.

Some of them are not happy with the jokes made by the classmates and they are a little upset. They are not using a bad language, do not threaten each other virtually or physical. Due to the age of the children at my school, there are less incidents of cyberbullying than there would be at a school where more children have their own mobile devices. However, we have had a couple of issue to do with hacking each others gaming accounts. As a school, we have approached this by investigating the incidents and the pupils involved and finding out what has motivated them. Where intent was malicious children have been given a computing sanction within school, such as a ban from school devices for a set period.

Two years ago some girls sent "bullying" messages from their mobiles to 2 other girls form the same class. This was going on for a while and once the "bullies" saw that the girls were getting more and more upset the began to bully the at school as well. Fortunately the girls informed their teacher and together we took action. We played a role game in class on a specific scenario we had written, reversing roles. Afterwards we had a discussion about their thoughts and feelings. We teachers were just hearing while the whole class was discussing the issue of bullying and cyberbullying. We've had to deal with several cyberbullying issues this year, ranging from offensive text messaging to things much stronger. Since it is a crime in Malta, we do encourage families to involve the police, and that is a part of the message we've been sending out to students. We also put in place counselling for both bully and bullied, and continue to monitor.
It's an issue we have become much more aware of hence why I'm doing this course. We have also had the police from the cyber crime unit come in to talk to students, and we'll be having them in for parents tomorrow.

The "victim" complained to me and I've talked to the bully, he erased the group (it took 2 weeks for facebook to erase it) and i've sent him to the principle, parents had to come to school. 5th grade students started sending nasty messages through messenger to a student. Parents came to school to tell us about the situation when they discovered their child crying while on the computer. We had a meeting with the students, the principal, psychologist and me to address the issue. Parents of the bullies were called in to school and for a few months there was a lot of supervision of this group from parents and staff at the school to make sure it wouldn't happen again, this accompanied by talks, and other strategies to make sure students understood the damage they were causing to the student with their behavior.

It is quite difficult to check students'activity online. Sometimes they know more and are very skilled to hide their interests. I had an issue related to bullying first. In my class (7th graders) a girl continued an argument which started during one of the breaks with another girl from the class next door via WhatsApp. Although she normally is a nice and friendly girl, she wrote very abusive and malicious words.
Our social worker reacted very fast and we spoke to her. Only the she realized that she would never have said what she had written.
I think we need to rise the awareness that written words come out more quickly and brutal as we do not need to face the victims emotions!

Everything started from an incident in class, which some of the students carried to the online world. The person feeling bullied had the courage to tell a teacher, who investigated this further. We had a few times, when students take a picrure of another, and do some photo-shop changes to it, and put it on Instagram. Fortunately, students turn to teachers, the picture is deleted in a very short time. We talked to them about e-safety, took precausions on using telephones, and invited the national service for preventing syberbulling. They talked to students, but also to parents, and I believe that most of the students understood the basics. I hope I will learn some more on these procedures here...
But it usually starts offline, and only continues on-line.

We had several issues related to cyberbullying at school and we talked about it in class first, then involved parents and in one case we had to report to the police. Now we have some documents we share among teachers to observe some situations and if we have suspicions we immediately tell the family. In one case we could stop a small group of students being too rude and aggressive simply talking to the parents. But it is not always that easy.

Comments relating to person. Victim had kept screenshots. Victim was asked about incident and any previous occasions this happened. Perpetrator was interviewed and warned regarding behaviour. Parents contacted and incident filed with bullying committee.

It is very important that both sides are recorded to ensure. Students are offered supports by counselling team if necessary.

I my opinion many of these issues related to (cyber)bullying are about the pupil's LOOK (clothes, cellulars, hairdo, weight etc.). There is a dress code in our school and we try to temperate some parents' need "to show the money" they have (or not...). Practicing empathy games and reading together therapeutic stories are some of the resources I use to help pupils to learn acceptance and self-esteem.

This issue is present in all schools even if sometimes parents and teachers are not aware of it. My school has set up a number of projects with the local town authority in order to combat the problem. Students have seen documentaries, films and videos about the subject and then been helped to talk about their experiences or recognise the dangers by psychologists and police officers

One of my students took a photo of his friend in the school trip, and put it on the WhatsApp group. The groups laughed at him. When I informed it by the other students as a school counselor, I had individual interviews with all students involved this situation. I informed to both parents of cyberbullies and cyberbullied. After those meetings, the cyberbully students sent messages reflect their feelings with an empathic way to the WhatsApp group, voluntarily. The problem is over. Still, I have weekly meetings with those students. Also, my plan is continue to implement group guidance activities for increasing awareness in the school.

Yes, we've had these problem at my school. They were mostly related with posting pictures and videos showing students in akward situations without their authorisation. School punishes students who do this, personally I try to use these situations to call students' atention to the fact that eveyone can be a victim so they should be careful. I have not encountered phenomena of cyberbullying in my classes. I met the problem of bullying (no cyber) with my niece, a victim of this phenomenon at primary school. The teacher did not recognize the problem and she did nothing. As a family we made a strong decision: we had our little girl changed school. We risked, but the result was very positive: my niece was reborn and she became interested, motivated, participatory.

At my school Cyberbulling is becoming more complex, one case in particular was about a whatsapp group from kids were they posted pictures and messages that tend to be annoying for other kids. The main problem is that the school has a mobile devices zero policy at school, also it is forbidden to any minor of 13 years old to have any kind of social media account, we can´t do anything unless one kid says something to any authority. The only thing that we can do in this cases is to send an e-mail to parents reminding them the rules of our school but parents are neglecting this and they are actually doing formal complains about cyberbullying when we the school has made very clear that it is forbidden that a minor has a social media account.

In our school cyberbullying is not very often, it happens once or twice per school year. It's verbal, intended to offend someone. The victims always speak up and the culprits are punished the way the system allows. Parents are obligatory to take part in the process.

Yes there are cyber bullying in my school. In fact, pupils make negative sexual comments on photographs posted on Facebook and some of them take photos of their teachers on class, they modify them and post them on social media.

Two students posted an inappropriate video of their classmate on FB. The situation was resolved in a way that students and parents had conversation with headmaster and a psychologist, two guilty students were given a written warning about their behavior from teacher’s council and the whole class attended cyberbullying workshops.

Usual cases of cyberbullying I have encountered involved social media, that is, students commenting inappropriately on other's statuses. Once I saw a case, where students bullied another student online because her dog had an operation and ended with only one eye. They would call her dog names such as 'he looks like a cockroach now', which made the student cry. This was addressed by the staff at school.

I had a case of cyberbullying in my class about an year ago. There was an pupil that would receive some messages with inadequated images. One day he told me about it and I disscused the issue with the parents. We were given the name of the person who did this and we were shown the messages and images. We diresctly addressed the other kid, because it happened to be one of the students from our school as well. As soons as we (the adults) got involved, the bullying stopped. Sometimes young people just feel like they can't do anything about the situation and there are times when things cand be solved just by talking things out, that's why it's very important to keep a close relation if possible.

I had a case that envolved two students. One of them used the email of the other and sent inconvenience messages to various contacts.
I talked with that student and make him see that that behaviour was not correct. I asked him what he would do if it was his email.

After poll data in our school, students have faced cyberbullying, playing online games. Some had a threat of killing them and their relatives. Too serious students didn't take it, but it they were told to think how with people could play online games. We discussed in the lesson that, how fake profiles can be recognized, and that suspicious profiles should be reported to site providers and block these profiles. I suggested about cyberbullying to speak with parents, with teachers, with trusted people, or to call the trust phone 116111.

We have several situations each year but one that happened with my class was the case of a student who apparently took a picture of another in school with is mobile phone and made him believe that he had published the photo online. The offended student reported to me, I then talked to the student who took the photo and was possible to take a printscreen of the facebook post, so the bully couldn’t deny his acts.

Parents were informed of the situation and asked to be more alert. The school, supported by its internal regulations, which is in accordance with the law, punished the bully.

Yes. There were two cases in my school. The aggressors were even victims’ mates. They were quickly discovered because they “praised” to their acquaintances. The last ones came to teachers and we made a team. When they were caught and discovered, they recognized their bad deeds and when they were asked to say why they did it, they said that there were only jokes: they wanted to joke with their mates because the victims showed their own passwords! The parents were informed and all the involved parts (both victims and aggressors) were included in individual counseling programs.
