Come along to one of our Talking Walk-ins – no appointment needed!

👩‍👩‍👧 Who are they for?

• Families of children aged 0–5 who need advice and reassurance about their child's speech, language, and communication.

💡 What happens at a Talking Walk-in?

• A chance to chat and for your child to play with a Speech and Language Therapist.

• We will listen to you. We will show you strategies to help your child's speech, language and communication.

• You will go home with tips and ideas you can use straight away.

• Talking Walk-ins happen at the Family Hubs across the borough of Rochdale.

• This includes the 5 neighbourhoods of Middleton, Heywood, Pennine, Rochdale North and Rochdale South.

To do that, we’re using something called The Balanced System® — a framework that helps a whole area work together, from early years settings and schools to health services, families and community groups.

You don’t need to know the technical bits.

What matters is this:

The Balanced System helps us ask the right questions

• Are families getting support early, without long waits?

• Are schools and settings confident in what to do?

• Do children get the right help at the right time?

• Are all services pulling in the same direction?

It gives us a shared map

Instead of everyone doing their own thing, the framework helps us line everything up — our new Talking Walk-Ins, the SEND offer in schools, community groups, the new digital Learning System, our early-years pathway, parent resources, and the specialist support from speech and language therapists.

It shows us what “good” looks like

The Balanced System is used right across the country to shape strong communication support.

We’re using it so Rochdale can:

• cut down waiting times

• make help available when families actually need it

• build confident settings

• create a local approach that lasts

It’s part of our local story now

It’s simply our way of showing that the changes you’re seeing in Rochdale aren’t random — they’re part of a clear, shared plan that everyone can understand and contribute to.
