O cubismo é um movimento que deu origem no século xx. Os artistas mais reconhecidos desse período foram Pablo Picasso e Georges Braque. Nesse momento, importava-se o prazer lírico e rítmico. Uma de suas características principais era a desconstrução, fragmentação e reconstrução dessa realidade se baseando em estruturas geométricas; o plano tridimensional no plano bidimensional, estudo da composição através da forma e a paleta reduzida. A intenção do Cubismo era mostrar todos os lados ao mesmo tempo, ou seja, registrar todos os pontos de vistas num mesmo plano. Picasso explica que o espectador deveria julgar a pintura pela qualidade da composição, não com base na qualidade de um engano ilusório. O cubismo se dividiu em: analítico, o estudo da forma analisando um tema e o espaço que ele ocupa; e o sintético, que usava a técnica conhecida como papier collé (colagem).    Devido a Primeira Guerra Mundial, o Cubismo teve seu fim.

Já no Brasil, após a Semana de Arte Moderna, muitos artistas foram influenciados por esse movimento como Tarsila do Amaral, Anita Malfatti e Di Cavalcanti.
