As much as I hate to say it, this has become the new normal. When we first went into lockdown, everyone was either super cautious or didn't take it seriously. As time progressed, people started to realize how impactful COVID really is. We all started to pay even more attention to the pandemic and now, when we see someone in public without a mask on, we think "how bizarre." With all the vaccinations taking place right now, COVID is on the decline (knock on wood)! I would literally feel naked if I was allowed to go in public without a mask. It's so crazy to think that I haven't been to the movies or even school in over a year. It's also a lot harder to see family members, like my grandparents, since I don't want to risk them getting sick. I feel like the nation has also suffered greatly. America and its people are more divided than it has ever been right now due to everything that is going on in the world. "I am feeling more relieved. When the pandemic first started, it was bad and we didn't know what we were doing. Now, we have a system and things are getting done."
Did you have to cancel any major event like a vacation, a Bar Mitzvah, etc. because of the pandemic?

"We were going to go on a road trip visit my sister in New York and that got cancelled. The AirBnB company robbed us of $4,000 and we still haven't gotten it back."
How has your life changed since first going on quarantine last year?
"It didn't change as much as you would think it did. I am a stay at home mom so its not like my job got interfered with. I became a little more involved with my kids school since all of them are attending school virtually."
What has the pandemic made you realize?

"Don't take things for granted. It's so crazy to see how much we miss the little things like going to movies and family gatherings."

"We can't go out as much. I love going to the park and playing on the playground and I can't do that anymore."

"I didn't have to cancel any major events, but I didn't get to have any birthday parties or hang out with my friends."

"I got my friend's phone number and now we talk every single day, all day long. It's weird that we got closer when not even getting to see each other."

"How much I love going to school. I really miss all of my friends and teachers and miss getting to see them everyday."

I kinda just brushed it off to the side and did not really care about it. Then it came to America and soon after the numbers were growing and growing. This was when I started to get worried. Then when schools started shutting down, I thought people were over exaggerating. When COVID first started, I don't think I understood just how harmful and deadly this was. I thought that virtual school would just be for a few weeks until the COVID cases in America started to decrease. Then, it was said that we weren't going to go back to school for the rest of the 2019-2020 school year. This was when I truly realized how dangerous this disease is. This is when I started to think that the government, society, and the world was under-reacting. My opinion is that our government wasn't taking this serious enough and that they were just waiting for this disease to go away by itself. By this I mean basic things like going to movies or just going out period. I never thought there would be a time where we were stuck at home and couldn't go out unless we absolutely needed to. I remember that once at the beginning of quarantine, my mom had gone to Publix. When she returned home, she either sprayed or wiped down almost all the groceries with a Clorox wipe/spray. If someone told me one year ago that this would now be the state of the world, I would have laughed. Now, anytime my parents go somewhere I beg them to let me go with them. Whether it’s going to CVC to pick up a prescription or going to a restaurant for curbside pickup. I have gotten so bored of staying in the house that I am now willing to go anywhere. Another example is going to school. I always just accepted the fact that I was going to wake up in the morning and go to school because thats just the way it is. Now, I wake up and walk to a computer screen. It’s so weird that a simple thing like going to school has been so affected. After each quarter of school, I think, “this is the time I finally go back to school.” And here I am, having experienced less than half of actual middle school and I’m going into high school in a few months.
