Stations can be a great tool to expose students to various bits of new content. Stations also gives the opportunity for students to learn in different ways. It is beneficial for them to interact with the content in different formats: video, vocabulary, article, graphic organizer, etc.

I think it’s great that Catawba county takes their online attendance using three methods:

1) complete the daily assignment

2) 2-way communication with the teacher

3) joining the live class

work on their own level in a way that does not take away from other students' learning time

Soft skills that transfer into everyday application. The students had the opportunity to choose and incorporate their interests into their passion projects. Allowing them to express their abilities and learn skills they had not previously had such as putting together a 3D printer. These skills can also lean towards management skills and deadlines which are all applicable applications in everyday life and professional development.

Passion Projects

I noticed higher levels of student engagement from the students on the videos than I have seen in most of my classes. I love the development of soft skills and the active participation. If students can consistently develop the professional skills through things like passion projects and find intrinsic motivation to succeed, they will be setting themselves up for success after high school very well.

I noticed that the elementary school featured in the Lab video I watched had a group that was split that alternated between in-person and online. This would be good for older students who want an online program but also need to foster person-to-person communication skills.
