When creating/editing your showreel:
1. Cut ruthlessly
2. Keep it short
3. Start and end well
4. Think of it as an ad. ...
5. Match your reel to the course you want to enrol on/the job vacancy/studio style you're aiming for
6. Make your role in the production clear when discussing the showreel
7. In addition to the above, be able to show your workings
8. Keep things simple

Remember: 
Front-load your showreel with your best work.
 
You'll only have a short time to show off your work, so keep your showreel short and punchy - around two minutes long.

Research the course or job that you're applying for, identify the main area of work produced on/in it and base a larger portion of your showreel around that.
 
Your interviewer may ask to see your best piece of work, so make sure you can find specific pieces quickly and easily.
