The purest definition of democracy is rule by the people. If you actually translate it,that is exactly what it means. All people rule in a democracy. It gets far more complicated with direct and indirect democracy. This is based on representatives.
Core Questions:
2. In Athens, women and slaves were not allowed to vote. Only male citizens were allowed to vote. This was reality in Athens. This was not a true democracy, as not everyone was allowed to vote.
3. To prevent anyone from becoming too powerful, Athens arranged a democracy. If everyone has equal power, there is no one ruler, hence not making one person hold all the power.
4. Some Athenian lifestyle choices that contradict the meaning of democracy is that many people couldn't vote! Women and slaves were excluded from all political affairs, even if they were Athenian! These people made up a huge chunk of Athens' population, and yet Athens is considered a true democracy by some. Most people in Athens couldn't even vote!
5. No, having slaves overrules the whole meaning of democracy. slaves most likely didn't have voting rights. This was unfair, and this made a place an untrue democracy. Although the US is an indirect democracy, it has no slavery and all citizens can vote, hence making it a true democracy.
6. Athens let Pericles rule for so long

According to "How democratic was Athens?" The word democracy comes from two words. A noun and a verb, these two words are "demos" and "Keratein". Compared to the one online, the one online is more detailed. But that to me is one of the only differences.
