Canada is on the fifth tier of Rostow's Development at an age of high consumption. It began as a traditional society, with many indigenous people with their own trade networks and beliefs, in very early times when Britain took it over it was used for agriculture and the export of natural resources like fur and timber, but as it rose in Rostow ranks, also rose in independence and became its own country eventually rising to the fifth tier of Rostows Development Theory.

South Africa rose up in society to the fourth tier of Rostow's Development by skipping the traditional stage as it was colonized by Great Britain before it could even begin development and once it was colonized was use for mineral exportation, because South Africa has an abundance of natural minerals.

It is a leading country in gender equality, which is probably part of the reason it has evolved so much in Rostow's economic development.

The main cause of inequality in the country is: poverty, illiteracy, and unequal education opportunities. This is why they have yet to reach the fifth stage of Rotow's development.

Why Rostow's Model Doesn't Uphold Anymore

Rostow's model doesn't uphold any more due to advances in technology and industries that allow countries to pass through different stages or be in between two different stages. Most countries that are traditional might also have aspects of transitional causing us to believe that these countries cannot be grouped into such small labels. Countries also can trade with each other much easier now, due to increases in transportation between them. This ease in trade closes the gaps between differing levels of countries making Rostow's theory almost obsolete now.
