         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Candy Lightner</strong><br>Born May 30, 1946<br>Activist: Founder of MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving)<br>Candy Lightner's daughter, Cari, was killed in 1980 by a drunk driver.  Ms. Lightener founded Mothers Against Drunk Driving to raise awareness about drunk drivers and to fight for tough laws for people who drive drunk.  She is an inspiration to me.  She was devastated when her daughter was killed.  Yet, she formed MADD to help prevent others from being hurt and killed by drunk drivers.</div>]]></description>

Goddard because he set very important milestones for spaceflight. Without him we may have never went to the moon or into outer space. He also applied two axis control into rockets to effectively control their flight in space.          <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Edwin</strong> <strong>Hubble</strong> <br>Born November 20 1889<br>Died September 28 1953<br>Edwin Hubble was an astronomer which means he worked on experiments for space and discovered an easier way to look into space.  NASA named the world's first space-based optical telescope after him.  His research helped prove that the universe was expanding and he created a classification system for galaxies that was used for several years.<br><br></div><div><br></div>]]></description>

His work on lasers is used in many medical fields, entertainment, and is the bases of fiber optic communication. Furthermore, in 1991 he was put into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Rachel Carson<br></strong>Born May 27, 1907<strong><br></strong>Marine Biologist, environmentalist: conservationist, former author of multiple writings about advancing the global environment, and worked as a marine biologist, studying the sea for years.<br>Rachel Carson  turned her attention to conservation, especially some problems that she believed were caused by synthetic pesticides. The result was the book <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silent_Spring"><em>Silent Spring</em></a> (1962), which brought environmental concerns to an unprecedented share of the American people. Although <em>Silent Spring</em> was met with fierce opposition by chemical companies, it spurred a huge  fight on certain chemicals which led to a nationwide ban on DDT and other pesticides. <br>She inspires me because she chased her dreams to make the world a better place. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div> Sally Ride<br>NASA Astronaut and Physicist<br><br>Born May 26th 1951<br>She studied at Stanford University before beating out 1,000 other applicants for a spot in NASA's astronaut program. On June 18, she became the first American woman in space, aboard the space shuttle Challenger. She was a mission specialist, so she helped deploy satellites and worked other projects. The next year, she again served as a mission specialist on a space shuttle flight in October. Sally was supposed to go on a third but there was a tragic accident.  In 2001, she started her own company to create educational programs and products known as Sally Ride Science. Ride received the NASA Space Flight Medal and the NCAA's Theodore Roosevelt Award. She was also inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame and the Astronaut Hall of Fame.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Jane Goodall<br>April 3 1934 - today<br>United Nations Messenger Of Peace<br>Over the years Goodall was able to correct a number of misunderstandings about chimpanzees. She found, for example, that the animals are omnivorous, not vegetarian; that they are capable of making and using tools; and, in short, that they have a set of hitherto unrecognized complex and highly developed social behaviours. Goodall wrote a number of books and articles about various aspects of her work, notably <em>In the Shadow of Man</em> (1971). She summarized her years of observation in <em>The Chimpanzees of Gombe: Patterns of Behavior</em> (1986). Goodall continued to write and lecture about environmental and conservation issues into the early 21st century. In 2002 she became a UN Messenger of Peace.</div>]]></description>

She helped shape the freedom for poor people and she was a part of many Charitys. She fought and succeeded for women's education. She had a talent for speaking out which made people pay attention and because so many people payed attention to her she was able to raise awareness for equality for everybody. <br>More people should know about Eva because if it weren't for her women could still not be able to learn and there wouldn't be as much equality for poor people either. She spoke out for what she believed in until she succeeded which makes her a true hero. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Alexander Fleming   <br>August 6, 1881 - March 11, 1955<br><br>biologist, physician, microbiologist<br><br>By 1927, Fleming had been investigating the properties of staphylococci. He was already well known from his earlier work and had developed a reputation as a brilliant researcher, but his laboratory was often untidy. On 3 September 1928, Fleming returned to his laboratory having spent August on holiday with his family. Before leaving for his holiday, he had stacked all his cultures of staphylococci on a bench in a corner of his laboratory. On returning, Fleming noticed that one culture was contaminated with a fungus and that the colonies of staphylococci immediately surrounding the fungus had been destroyed, whereas other staphylococci colonies farther away were normal, famously remarking "That's funny". Fleming showed the contaminated culture to his former assistant Merlin Pryce, who reminded him, "That's how you discovered lysozyme" Fleming grew the mold in pure culture and found that it produced a substance that killed a number of disease-causing <br><br><br></div>]]></description>

Starting when Freddie was 14 and Truus was 16 they joined the resistance against the Nazis. By the time Freddie was 16 and Truus was 18 they became the resistances best assassins. They would ambush the Nazi officers from their bikes.
