Shays wanted to alter government because it was not meeting the citizens’ needs. The government did not pay him for his service and now they wanted to take his land away because he couldn’t pay his taxes.

Today, we see protests in the United States for rights for equality, to change government and for our climate. We had a group, on January 6, 2021,that wanted to alter or abolish the government. The day started as a protest and ended in an insurrection by the group wanting to change what they believe was a fraudulent presidential election. The group wanted to stop the vote by the Electoral College.

In recent events, it was used extremely and harshly and as an excuse to commence violence in a immature way. However, America was founded on the idea of freedom of speech and the idea of citizens to have some control over the government and its choices, so they weren't necessarily going against the country directly.
