The purpose of isolating the Jews in ghettos was to separate them from the German population and force them to live on their own. Previously ghettos were used by a few other nations. The term ghetto was first seen from Venice, Italy when they sectioned the Jewish homes and businesses in their own sector which began in 1516. Then it was later used by other nations like Rome, and Prague then by Germany. It then became not mandatory for Jewish people to live inside. But the German ghettos were different in the fact that they took it to a whole new level of segregation. Some ghettos were very small and some were almost small cities, but they were walled off from the other German people, and also guarded. The ghettos that were allowed outside of the walls to work were mainly force-ably employed by the 🤬's.

Rob Smart
