1. My role during my internship was to be an extra set of hands to the main teacher in the classroom. With this, I helped watch and redirect the students while also having jobs of washing student’s hands and wiping down tables before eating periods.

1. I was able to problem solve throughout my internship when a conflict arose, specifically with scheduling. This skill was instilled in me during my time at CHS as critical thinking was a large virtue preached throughout my high school career, providing me with tools that were handy over the past four weeks of internship. 

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience? 

1. The most memorable part of my experience was, as seen in photo number two, field day. On this day, animals were brought in and there was a tumbling course for the students. It was very fun and memorable to watch.

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience? I loved the ability to learn new things that are important later in on in life to know, especially when buying or selling a property.

It is important to be social with people since as an agent connections is one of the biggest things to be successful. What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience?

The most memorable part of my experience was when Mrs. Izsa had a yes day for her students. She handed out pieces of paper where the students wrote certain things that wanted to do in school. She then approved their ideas and designated a day for all of the students to do the activities they asked for.

Someone who enjoys working with kids and might even plan to do it in the future. It is important to have patience and energy when interning at an elementary school.

My internship experience was:

My experience was refreshing from the usual high school environment because I got to spend a lot of time outdoors, however it was a lot of manual work.

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship:

Major everyday roles included watering, mulching, and moving plants around but helping with smaller tasks like unclogging a drain. We also had gala preparation tasks such as spray painting flowers or moving certain equipment out of the way.

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship:

CHS prepared me for my internship by giving me good teamwork skills. A lot of the work we did at the Arboretum was in groups and you have to be able to listen to instructions and follow through properly as a team to be efficient.

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience?

One of my favorite parts was riding in the Gator and also just the random some of the smaller, more random tasks were fun. One day after it rained a lot we unclogged a drain for 2 hours and talked about the most random things. I did this internship with one of my close friends which also made it fun.

Who would be a good candidate for this internship in the future? What qualities/skills/interests are important to have?

A good candidate must be willing to do manual labor for five hours. I did the hands-on horticulture program and I had to wear pants even when it was hot and humid outside. If you're interested in an internship outside this one will guarantee you five hours outside. Also, you should be comfortable with talking to people. People will come up to you and ask you what a plant is and you probably won’t know but then you can refer them to one of your supervisors. I also wouldn’t say that you have to pursue a career in horticulture, but it makes what you're doing a little more interesting if you like it.

Any last thoughts or reflections about your internship you want to share? 

Overall, if you want to be outside and talking to people and also learn something new then interning at the Arboretum is a good choice.

My internship experiences was (one or more words to describe it): My internship experience was very interactive due to having to interview people within our community for each article I wrote.

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: My role as an intern was to complete the assignments I was given and write informative articles for the public to read. My responsibilities included making time to interview people, adding quotes and factual information into my writing, and finding photos to be published along with each article.

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: CHS prepared me for this internship by improving my skills of talking to my peers and being able to ask questions when needed. After writing current event essays through high school I felt confident when writing my articles and adding in quotes.

What I loved most about my internship was being able to have the responsibilities of scheduling interviews and coming up with new articles to write because it gave me a lot of freedom to do what I wanted and to be creative.

A good candidate for this internship would be someone who is interested in studying journalism or communications. It is important to be interested in advertising what you are writing and make your articles informative for the readers. Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship:

1. During my internship, I had various responsibilities that most of the time included unpackaging new items, tagging and pricing products, organizing inventory, tending to customers’ needs, and picking up orders from local businesses.

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: CHS prepared me for my internship by teaching me the importance of efficiency and time management. Many times we would have a line of people in the store to pick up orders or check out all at once and it was necessary to work quickly yet thoroughly to satisfy each of their needs in a timely manner. 

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience?

1. One thing I loved about my internship was the creative freedom I had. I was able to adjust product displays in the store in ways I thought looked nice and I even got to customize my own clothing that I got to take home as a nice souvenir of my internship. It was really nice to see all of the work that went into hand making these custom items that I so often see people around town have.

Who would be a good candidate for this internship in the future? What qualities/skills/interests are important to have?

1. I think that those interested in graphic design, fashion, and retail would be good candidates. Additionally, entrepreneurially-inclined individuals who are interested in how to run a business would be good candidates for this internship as I also learned a lot about the behind-the-scenes, professional side of the store rather than simply dealing with its aesthetics.

I interned at: Chatham Middle School for Mrs. Georgio’s Cooking Class

My internship experience was (one or more words to describe it): meaningful and impactful to real life skills and everyday knowledge. As well as increased my everyday social skills with adults and children.

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: Some of my many roles as a CMS intern or a teachers assistant was to do a lot of the behind the scenes prep. Meaning before a class, days prior, I was able to read through recipes and organize pre measured ingredients for students' specific recipes. 

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: CHS helped me prepare for my internship by the preparation to talk to and have real conversation with adults and more specifically teachers. I was able to take on a higher responsibility and felt well prepared with my skills and prior knowledge in taking on this role.

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience? I really did love my internship at CMS. I loved the way I could make friends with younger students whose shoes I was in not too long ago and I had the agility to give advice and provide my knowledge as essentially an upperclassman. My favorite memory was with my 8th grade classes when they made their food and got to present it to staff and interns. It was very cool to see all their hard work get recognized.

More specifically I believe a good candidate for this internship would be someone who has a good attitude, loves kids, is self driven and motivated, and has confidence in themselves.

My final reflection on my internship at CMS was that I truly enjoyed the last 4 weeks of school being in another school. It made me appreciate my prior education and gave me closure on ending my high school chapter.

My internship experiences was (one or more words to describe it): Engaging, useful, and fun.

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: As an intern, our program set out to inform us about the various sectors of the company. We (the interns) would attend various meetings with all the different sectors of the company ranging from the e-commerce and engineering teams to the customer experience and brand design teams. We also had the opportunity to design displays at retail locations and help out at their photo studio.

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: CHS and the entrepreneurship class that was taught by Mr. Ahsler gave me valuable insights that helped me understand what was going on at Boll and Branch with much greater detail.

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience? Being able to have a sitdown conversation with Boll and Branches founder Scott Tannen was very valuable to me, and the fact that he took time out of managing such a large company to talk to us felt very meaningful. I also loved visiting the retail locations and uncovering how they achieve profitability.

1. I had a variety of small tasks around the store. Some of those included helping organize the downstairs storage area, stock items in the store, update quantities on the website, and ring up customers. I also helped research and prepare the starting stages of a podcast that the owner wants to jumpstart which features working moms. 

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship:

1. CHS prepared me for this internship by enhancing my communication skills which is such a crucial element in retail and customer interaction. More specifically, in classes like Marketing, I was able to see in real life how units I learned applied to this business when it came to positioning items around the store, engaging with customers, and predicting what will sell well. 

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience?

1. I love the warm atmosphere of the store and how devoted the owner, Christine Kosakowski is to her business and family. My most memorable experience with her was when we got to visit a mother/daughter business that makes jewelry in their house and sells to stores like The Pink Pear. I really enjoyed seeing how Christine works with her vendors and how she curates her own collection to sell to the store and reading the audience of people in the Madison area.

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: During my internship, I was responsible for being a role model to the second-grade students in my class and assisting Mrs. Turrisi (my mentor teacher) with many jobs around her classroom. Some specific responsibilities included making photocopies, sorting materials for next year, organizing portfolios, passing out materials, and cleaning up around the classroom.

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: CHS prepared me for my internship by supplying me with problem-solving skills CHS also prepared me to know how a good teacher controls and runs a classroom. 

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience? I loved everything about my internship. If I had to choose the thing that I loved most about interning at Washington it would be the connections that I made with the students in such a short amount of time. They looked up to and trusted me which was a cool feeling. From asking me how to spell words or playing with them during extra recess, I loved coming to school every day to be greeted by their smiling faces. I also really liked seeing how the students grew from the start of my internship to the end.

I think that a good candidate for this internship has to be patient, empathetic, and has to be able to think on their toes/problem-solve effectively. To work in a second-grade class, it is also important to love kids.

My internship experience was really positive since I loved being able to return to help a teacher that had such a big impact on my education, and having the opportunity to build relationships with the students. 

During my internship, my role was to assist Mrs. Condon whenever she needed help. These responsibilities ranged from providing extra help to certain students, catching students up if they were absent, grading tests, organizing student work for next school year and printing/making copies. 

I think CHS prepared me very well for my internship. The academically rigorous setting of CHS taught me to have a work ethic and to be proactive. I found that both of these skills were very helpful throughout the course of my internship.

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: CHS has taught me skills such as communication, presentation skills, and google slide skills. I use all three during my internship to communicate with my colleagues as well as the kids, present mini lessons or instructions to students, and create presentations for the lessons.

I loved that it was a break from being inside on screens. It was a great way to end the year and get lots of fresh air and also physical activity.

An interest in gardening or nature is important, and you also shouldn’t mind being outside all day and you should be fine with getting dirty and on some days doing occasional, somewhat arduous physical labor (ex. carting mulch in a wheelbarrow for an hour). My responsibilities were to complete daily modules, update the compliance manuals, organize files, and shred documents. We were also taught to pick two stocks; one to buy and one to short. As well as read the WSJ front page every night and come in with two questions.

CHS definitely prepared me for my internship. The business-related classes really helped me be able to talk to Mosk, and understand what he was talking about and doing.

My most memorable was being able to sit in on the company's monthly meeting.

My internship experiences was (one or more words to describe it): My internship was informative, exciting, creative, and beneficial!

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: My main role was helping to research things for the education department, I put together an informational guide to one of the theater's upcoming plays, researched/made crafts for the children's camps and shows, and found clips from plays like Julius Caeser. I also helped to set up for/check-in college students for their summer internship program! I was also happy to have opportunities to observe, like getting to see the designer's presentations for the upcoming production of As You Like It!

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: Being able to use my resources to conduct research is a great skill I learned at CHS and is very beneficial for this job. I knew lots of great ways to get valuable information off the internet. I also feel I developed good speaking and people skills in my time at school which helped a lot in advocating for myself!

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience? I really loved observing the comings and going of the day! Theater, in almost any capacity, is what I want to do someday. So I loved being surrounded by people who love theater and made a career out of it every day was inspiring, and getting to see them do their part for the theater was amazing! My mentors answered a lot of my questions on how a theater works, which was great and I feel like I learned a lot!

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: I learned from my teachers various types of activities and how to interact with students. CHS taught me how to create assignments and execute them.

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: I was responsible for an end of year video to show at the recital, creating props, organizing and preparing for the recital, and acting as a student teacher during classes and camps. 

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: CHS definitely helped me prepare for this internship and the organization skills it required. Creating programs (online and on paper), having different check in sheets, lineup sheets, etc, would have been difficult if I hadn’t been as organized as I was 

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience? The most memorable part of my experience was seeing the show come to life. I was able to watch my hard work and the dancers hard work come to life on stage. I saw all of my mentors visions and plans go smoothly and it was beautiful and rewarding to watch.

What qualities/skills/interests are important to have?A good candidate for this internship would be someone who is interested in dance. It's important to have some sort of love for it, otherwise the organizing and planning might get boring if you don’t understand the future vision. My name: is Natalie Yen.

I interned at: Chatham High School for the Mathematics Department. My mentor was the AP Calculus BC and Honors Pre-calculus teacher, Mr. Lynott.

My internship experience was an incredibly eye-opening experience.

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: Each day ran from 8:00am to 3:00pm. The morning began with extra help sessions: during this time, I worked individually with students to answer questions and guide them through test corrections. At 8:20am, Mr. Lynott assigned us tasks to complete by the end of the day. Those tasks included re-typing his AP Calculus BC warm-ups, quizzes, and exams; changing test questions; writing new versions of tests; making answer keys; and grading the Pre-calculus check-ups, quizzes, exams, and the Calculus BC quizzes. 

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: My time at Chatham High School fostered my ability to converse freely with adults/teachers and predicting their needs. By working as a lab assistant for the CHS Chemistry department for two years, I grew familiar with this type of work. Additionally, learning alongside high school students of different grades in different classes made it easy to work with the unfamiliar students one-on-one during these past four weeks. 

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience? I loved the fulfillment from finishing our tasks so quickly and meticulously than expected that Mr. Lynott had to search for more tasks to assign to us. My favorite part of this internship was having this opportunity to work closely alongside Mr. Lynott with Ken. Shadowing Mr. Lynott has given me an even greater appreciation of his work ethic.

Who would be a good candidate for this internship in the future? What qualities/skills/interests are important to have? In the future, any students interested in pursuing jobs in education, considering mathematics as their post-secondary education major, or even those who purely enjoy solving math problems would be a good candidate for interning for the mathematics department at CHS. The most important skills future interns must have include patience, flexibility, and most importantly, a passion for math.

My internship experiences was: Rewarding, Insightful, Engaging, and Inspiring

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: I assisted with operating machinery, organized and conducted inventory, and utilized various software programs (Beam studio, AutoCad, Sketchup). I also supported the teacher with grading & lesson planning and guided students in completing their tasks.

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship:

I have previously taken Mr. Mariano’s classes, therefore I was familiar with the way his classes operate and was familiar with the machinery and software that was used amongst all the students.

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience?

I really enjoyed helping different students with their assignments. Not only was I able to help students from Mariano’s classes but also helped physics students in the earlier stages of creating their CotH projects.

Who would be a good candidate for this internship in the future? What qualities/skills/interests are important to have?

Someone who has previously taking a class with Mr. Mariano since it is important to be confident in using lab equipment & design software. Communication & proactivity are also very important skills since Mr. Mariano teaches many different classes, therefore you need to stay organized with your tasks. I would recommend having an interest in pursuing a career in technology/ architecture/ engineering.

Any last thoughts or reflections about your internship you want to share?

I highly recommend interning with Mr. Mariano. I frequently received new tasks and was rarely sitting in a desk for over an hour, which was a refreshing shift from the typical classroom environment. Mr. Mariano is also someone who really loves what he does and is fun to work with, often sharing valuable ideas and perspectives surrounding education and technological fields.

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: I checked people in and out of their appointments at the front desk, organized patient files such as clinical notes and treatment plans, set up for appointments, and shadowed the dentist.

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: CHS taught me how to be organized and detail oriented. Doing a lot of projects in school prepared me to do meticulous tasks that required focus and efficiency.

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience? I loved getting to learn about the behind the scenes of how a dental office runs. There is a lot that goes into each appointment that I never realized when I simply went in as a patient. Every employee was dedicated to treating the patients and helped keep the practice running smoothly.

Who would be a good candidate for this internship in the future? What qualities/skills/interests are important to have? A good candidate for this internship would probably be interested in healthcare. It is important to be interested in the work, or else it can get boring when there is a long day filled with dental cleanings. You should also be organized and on top of everything so you can manage doing multiple tasks at the same time.

My internship experience was creative, fun, and interactive

My role in my internship was mainly to direct and edit a theater mockumentary made by the theater 2 class and organize the props and costumes for upcoming productions.

CHS prepared me for my internship from the organization skills I have learned throughout high school, applying leadership skills while organizing the mockumentary cast, and my film knowledge from the video classes I have taken. There were many skills that my classes have taught me which I carried throughout my internship and it especially made the directing process easier.

What I loved most about my internship was collaborating with the actors in the mockumentary. I was able to work with them in coming up with creative ideas and organizing scenes which really gave me an idea of the film world. This is important for my future career interests and it was really fun being a part of a team in the creative process.

A good candidate for this internship would be someone interested in film as a career and with previous film experience. It takes a lot of work and knowledge in film and while being independent in the directing and editing process.

Last thoughts: I really had a great time being involved in the theater classes during my internship and have met some great people. I would definitely recommend this for someone with a desire to collaborate and create art!

How CHS prepared me for my internship: I think CHS was able to prepare me for this internship by teaching me the importance of being focused and engaged and putting my best effort into everything that I do.

Most memorable moment: My most memorable moment from my internship was getting to see kids that I knew grow and develop and even graduate from preschool.

1. My internship experience was engaging and exciting. I had so much fun playing with the kids and getting to know the teachers. They made it a very welcoming, inclusive and enjoyable environment. It was such a great way to end the school year!

1. For the most part, I just played with the kids. I was an extra set of hands for the teachers so I would help with little things around the classroom like putting out their snacks/lunches, and cleaning up. I also assisted with crafts and worksheets.

1. Over the course of my four years at CHS I learned how to problem solve in different situations. Whether I encountered a misbehaving student or scheduling conflicts, I was able to navigate these challenges accordingly.

1. I really loved getting to know all of the kids. I was in the same classroom for the entirety of my internship so I had a lot of time to bond with them. I loved listening to all of their stories

All of the things that I learned during my internship will definitely come in handy later in life when looking to buy a home. I also love the freedom that being a real estate agent gives you. Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: CHS prepared me for a professional work environment with adults. While our classes are fun, they are also an excellent example of what the real world can look like.

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience?

The best part of my internship was filming mockumentaries for our Theatre II class. Seeing students enjoy the hard work put into a project was incredibly rewarding.

While it has often been actors in the past, a solid understanding of crew jobs is necessary for this position.

I interned at: Chatham Middle School with Miss Goldberg

My internship experience was (one or more words to describe it): Fulfilling and fun!

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: During my internship, my primary role was to help Miss Goldberg in any way she needed. During the first two weeks of internship, we were tasked with redesigning her wall outside the classroom door and the bulletin board inside, which required a lot of creativity and organization. Along with this, we created our own lesson on sound, and got to teach the sixth graders for a day. We helped Miss Goldberg’s students in any way they needed, and I think we acted as a role model for them, which was a goal of mine.

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: CHS prepared me in many ways. I think the biggest trait I learned at CHS and applied to this internship was leadership. CHS always taught me to be independent, and take charge of anything I was working on. These skills were used during my internship as we became a role model and leader for the students. 

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience? I loved getting to know the students and being able to bond with them, along with sharing some advice about their future years in school. It was really gratifying to be able to make an impact on their lives. My most memorable experiences were created the last few days of internship, where we really bonded with many of the students, and created so many fun memories with them.

A good candidate for this internship needs to be stern, as well as kind and warm. It is important to bond with the students and make them feel comfortable with you, and also be extremely patient.

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: During my internship one of my main responsibilities was reorganized the classroom library because Mr. Perinotti is transitioning from math to english next year. I got rid of old books, added new ones to the collection, organized by author's last name, and sealed the books with personalized labels. I also helped organize the class factor game. The factor game follows a similar format to a March Madness bracket tournament. I think all the kids appreciated the tournament and it added excitement towards the end of the year while still focusing on important math skills. 

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: CHS definitely prepared me substantially for my internship experience. They instilled in me the qualities of hard work and responsibility that definitely translated into my internship at Lafayette.

My role: Helping all the pro shop and golf pro staff with any task, being clinics or merchandise.

CHS prepared: gave me the communication skills to talk to people randomly, about anything other than confidence.

what I loved: I loved being around golf and being able to help the pro staff with their clinics when I was able to, along with learning how another country club worked.

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: During our internship we talked to many different people throughout the entire business and learned all the different aspects it take to run a startup. We not only talked to people in the office but also on the retail side along with people in the photo studio. On the business side we learned about the many different positions there are, from the people that run finances, and the online store all the way to the human relations people that get the customers to continue to return. At the retail store we learned all the different aspects of running a store from the storage room to the displays that you see if you entered the store. Lastly,  in the photo studio we saw them short pictures that will be presented on their website and learned about how detail oriented that process is to get the perfect shot. 

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: CHS prepared me for this internship by giving me the skills to be interactive with people and be able to learn in a hands on environment. Especially, at the store and the photo studio it was very important to give me hands on experience to learn where stuff goes and how to shoot the shot. Additionally,CHS prepared me in the office by giving me the background knowledge of financial statements and all the stuff that business look numberswise. 

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience?: My favorite part about the internship was seeing all the different aspects on the backline that support the store and let the company run as smooth as possible. The people at the internship were so nice and wanted us to learn all we could about the company. 

Who would be a good candidate for this internship in the future? What qualities/skills/interests are important to have?: A good candidate for Boll and Branch would be an outgoing person who has a desire to learn and interact with people. The employees are incredibly nice and the they taught us about all the different parts of the company. In order to fit the philosophy of the place it would be best for them to have a good attitude and be nice to everyone and be ready to learn. 

Any last thoughts or reflections about your internship you want to share? (if not, do not include in your video): The Tannen’s were incredibly nice people and they were very generous with their time and the merchandise they gave us. We got a free beach towel and bag, along with bedsheets for our dorm next year. They also provided us with lunch on several occasions.

My internship experience was exciting and informative

As an intern, I aided my teacher, Ms Kilea, by sorting through student files, cleaning the classroom, and distributing/grading small assignments. I also aided the students by helping them one on one when they needed my assistance. 

CHS taught me professional skills such as working in a timely manner. I've learned that as a teacher, jobs need to be done quickly and efficiently. CHS also taught me a professional attitude. I learned to talk to teachers at Lafayette as I would teachers at CHS. 

I loved that my internship allowed me to get to know Ms Killea’s fourth grade class. One of my favorite memories was when the students gave me cards providing advice for life beyond high school. 

I think a good candidate for this internship must show responsibility as well as kindness. Being a teacher isn’t easy, as you must take into account the kids' feelings. That being said, I think that a good candidate should also be flexible. An average day in a fourth grade classroom includes many unplanned mishaps as well as unplanned duties, so future interns must be able to prepare for anything that this internship throws at them.

I interned at: Chatham Emergency Squad

My internship experiences was: Impactful and Real

Role and responsibilities during your internship: I served as a volunteer EMT, riding two weekly 12-hour shifts from 7pm to 7am. I responded to real 911 calls as a full crew member, assessing and treating patients as we brought them to the hospital. I also was given a large project, which me and my internship partner completed, which is now going to be used as a reference for all future members of the squad.

How you think CHS prepared you for your internship: CHS taught me how to use software such as adobe acrobat and Word, which is where we did most of our revision work. CHS also taught me how to write formally and practically, which worked for the type of writing we were doing.

What is most memorable about your experience? Waking up to dispatches in the middle of the night on my shifts was the most memorable, as it was intense to rush out of bed and get ready to help someone in need out.

Who would be a good candidate for this internship in the future? Anyone already certified as an EMT who is already part of the squad should try to do this internship as an opportunity to advance your position within the squad and have a larger contribution with your community.

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience? I loved meeting and working with so many different people who all enjoyed what they were doing. Whether it was a volunteer or employee, the positivity within the environment made it easy to work in and made me look forward to each day.

I think that anyone with little experience with work environments could thrive at Sage being that everyone is very helpful. But, a skillful worker would also provide the right qualities. I interned at Southern Boulevard Elementary School in a Kindergarten Classroom

My internship experiences was truly unforgettable and something i am so grateful to have been apart of

My role as an intern in the classroom was to assist the students with guidance as they learned academically and developed their fine motor skills. On the playground and in the lunchroom I helped the children grow their social skills and strengthen their problem solving abilities. A lot is going on individually with each kid that the teacher cannot always catch while directing the class as a whole. My job was to monitor the overall well being of each student during the school day

I took the classes Sociology and AP Psychology offered at CHS, and I think these courses really prepared me to work in a kindergarten classroom. These kids are very young, and are learning and growing so much. Children are a lot less developed than someone my age, and I was taught how to approach situations with children through the classes I took at CHS.

I loved being able to work with children during my internship. It was so amazing to watch them read and write at such a young age. One of the students started the year speaking only Spanish, and it is truly amazing to hear him now speak all english. I have formed such a close bond with these children in the short time we have spent together. 

I think that anyone looking to be an elementary education major in college would be a good candidate for this internship. It required a LOT of patience to work with such young children but it was definitely worth it! I never expected a group of Kindergarteners to become some of my favorite people.

My internship experiences was (one or more words to describe it): Rewarding, educational, and very fun

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: My co-intern and I, Morgan McGarry, carried on various responsibilities throughout our internship. We worked on set construction, social media and outreach tasks, busy/clean-up work, choreography and production elements, and front of house jobs for shows and auditions. 

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: Being a part of theater classes and extracurricular activities at CHS helped prepare me to understand, engage in, and complete every task. The communication skills I developed throughout high school (including working with others on group projects or assessments) was extremely helpful in completing this internship, as the majority of the time we were constantly communicating with each other and the volunteers. 

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience? Because my non-profit company is actually performing our show in the playhouse in a few weeks, we helped create the actual set for our own production. Seeing it all come together was incredibly rewarding, especially considering that we have less experience behind the scenes rather than onstage. We also got to smash old wood with a hammer (safely, of course!) which was very fun.

Anyone who has interest in onstage or offstage theater, social media and outreach work, or even construction would be a great candidate. Because we covered so many topics and areas of work, this internship would be great for a diverse range of students who wish to have a fun time in a laid-back environment, while also completing real work that has a genuine impact.

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: Completing tasks that get the room ready for the summer and following school year. There are renovations happening this summer so there was a lot of organization and cleaning that needed to be done to get the room ready for that.

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: It prepared me well in two ways: one way was the time I spent in choral classes in the high school. I had a good understanding of the layout of the room and systems they use for organization so that made completing tasks easier. The second way is time management; I completed all the original projects that Mr. Bryson set out for me earlier than expected so we got to do more than he was expecting to get done.

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience?: Getting to hear about Mr. Bryson's journey into teaching.

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: We organized and displayed the School District of the Chathams Art Show: setting up the framework and the panels while also tabling at the event. The packaging of art pieces and distributing them was a task afterward. We helped with the general upkeep of the art room which included taking inventory of supplies, cleaning and organizing the cabinets, clearing the bookshelves, and checking paint. We also helped in performing administrative tasks such as sending out emails, searching for ideas for future projects, and displaying the Google Sites AP Portfolios. Lastly, we were able to paint a locker and work on making metal jewelry from silver clay. 

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: It was very helpful to have a lot of prior art room experience. The general knowledge of where the supplies were kept and how they were organized and handled was a big help. Being able to collaborate with the other interns and communicate with our art teachers efficiently was also very helpful since we already had shared experiences with each other. 

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience? Having a community of other interns to bounce ideas off of and collaborate with on projects and the same tasks was something I enjoyed. It made working feel more comfortable since it was usually more than one of us who was working on the same task. Painting the locker door was a fun collaborative project and might be the most memorable experience.

Someone who has an interest in expressing their creativity should be a good candidate. Being artistically talented is not a requirement, whether they would like to contribute through a form of art or ideas works just as efficiently. Patience and handling things with care and organization is important as well as being a hard worker in general and volunteering to do things.

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: During my internship, I worked one-on-one with 4th and 5th-grade students on STEM and design-based projects. This often looked like helping 4th-grade students design their 3-D printed LAF keychains on their Chromebooks or working with 5th-graders to build their stomp rockets. During my internship, I had to learn by doing each assignment and activity myself so that I was fully prepared to teach it to students. 

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: Chatham High School taught me to adapt to various situations while maintaining strong execution. Whether that was through a group project or research assignments, at CHS I learned how to pivot and work with certain circumstances. This type of adaptability prepared me to work in Mr. Kermick’s classroom because every 40 minutes, I was challenged with a new class and, therefore, had to teach lessons in a different way that met each child’s needs.

I loved getting the opportunity to work in a classroom environment because that is an experience I most likely would not have gotten otherwise. My internship experience was (one or more words to describe it): Informative and fun. This was a very enjoyable environment to be in and I learned a lot shadowing the teacher and had a great time being with the kids. 

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: As an intern in this kindergarten class, I was tasked with being a right-hand man for my teacher. I was there to help her with any tasks she needed; including simple assignments such as printing, copying, and laminating papers, handing out, collecting, and grading assignments, and organizing binders and folders. I also was there to assist the students and be prepared to help them with questions and explaining assignments, I read stories to them, and also worked 1 on 1 with students to help them with writing and reading skills. 

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: I think CHS helped prepare me for my internship by strengthening my communication and organization skills. I also learned many problem-solving skills in high school which helped me work through situations as an intern if there were any minor inconveniences or things I had to figure out. I learned a lot from my teachers in CHS and that was helpful when being in a similar role. 

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience? I loved getting to build bonds with the students and act as a role model for them. It was so much fun to help the kids during school and also play with them during recess and breaks. One of the most memorable moments for me was being a part of field day. This was really special because it was something I experienced when I was their age, so helping out and watching the kids on an exciting day for them was really memorable.

1. My internship  involved a variety of different responsibilities, varying between classes and weeks. One week I set up a ‘Game Design with Python’ section in CodeHS to use in place of replit, the current coding website, next year. In the section I set up coding assignments and uploaded directions, rubrics, pictures, etcetera. For the Robotics and Controls class, I helped students make progress with their circuit projects, helping them use soldering irons and understanding how resistors and LEDs work. For the Advanced Robotics classes, I helped them design cars to race. I also helped out with smaller tasks around the classroom, organizing the cabinets. Lastly, I also prepared the boxes with yearbooks, organizing them by homeroom and delivering them to classrooms.

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: During my internship my role was to assist the PTs in any way that they needed and to observe their appointments with patients. I brought the patients ice packs, heat packs, the Game Ready Machine (which is a compression and ice pack combined), and other equipment that the patients needed. I also helped by doing the laundry of the towels and pillow cases. As I became more confident in reading the short hand that they use on the charts, I was able to guide patients in what exercises they had to do and I followed up by taking notes on their charts.

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: I think CHS prepared me well for the internship because of the many clubs that I was involved in, specifically in LINKS. As a LINKS member, I am interacting with many freshman students, welcoming them into the school, and being a friendly face that they can connect with. This is similar to how I interacted with many patients at JAG - using the interpersonal skills that I learned through participating in LINKS.

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience? One aspect that I loved about my internship was how interactive it was with patients. I really enjoyed seeing the same patients 2-3 times a week and catching up with them about their lives and how their progress was. The most memorable part of my internship was interacting with the patients, either through conversation or through playing soccer/passing games. I got to meet new people, as young as 7 and as old as 93 and they were all so engaging to speak to.

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship:  I mainly interned under one teacher who taught kids from an age range of 3-4, but there were times where I would help out other teachers when needed. Some of the responsibilities that I had included helping setting up/cleaning up activities, helping at lunch and snack time and just generally playing and helping the kids. Outside of the classroom the school had a mini library that needed to be organized so I helped scan books and organize the shelfs. I also helped with small office tasks such as laminating and doing inventory of the supplies the school had. 

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: I think that CHS prepared me for my internship by teaching me how to communicate with a variety of people. Not only was I working with a wide age range of kids but I was also working with adults, and being able to communicate and learn how to speak to both adults and young kids was really important. 

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience?: One of my favorite parts of interning at the preschool was just seeing all the different ways the kids would interact with one another. It was really interesting seeing their group dynamics and the way they play with each other. I also just really loved creating connections with all of the kids and being able to help them. I remember that after a few days the kids would be really excited every time I came into the classroom and that was just a really heartwarming experience.

I attended multiple sporting events like girls lacrosse games and even some practices. I eventually was also able to learn how to tape an ankle.

I did a lot of photocopying and filing to get the kid's portfolios ready for the end of the year. I also helped prep crafts and other assignments. 

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: CHS prepared me for my internship because I had a lot of background knowledge on how a good classroom is run and the best way to help kids when they are having a hard time with the teachers at the high school. This helped me have patience and good problem-solving skills when working with the kindergarteners.

One of my favorite parts about this internship was the relationships I created with the students and teachers in the classroom I was working with. As the weeks went by I started to form closer connections with everyone because they began to open up more and more. My name is Evie Dittmann

I interned at CMS with the drama teacher Ms. PK

My internship experience was eclectic, and indicative of the industry I am going into.

During the first two weeks, I primarily helped out with the 4 class plays. I watched the kids, I found props and costumes, I helped out backstage/with setting up, etc. For the rest of my internship, most of my jobs were organizational. I helped out by cleaning the prop and costume closet, and created a whole new system to help future interns/Ms. PK stay organized. I also helped grade final performances.

Being in the theater classes throughout my time at Chatham helped me understand how a class would run smoothly. I understood the ins and outs of how things should work -- even little things like what shirt would look better on stage, or whether or not a table should be under a mic were helped by my time in Chatham. Furthermore, the executive functioning strategies I learned in an effort to stay organized in school really helped me with the organizational component of my job.

My favorite part was getting to watch one sixth grade class put on Undertale (which they wrote themselves).

Someone who is able to roll with the punches, and do a bit of everything would be great for this internship next year. Plus, they should obviously be passionate about theater.

My internship experience was (one or more words to describe it): transformative 

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: During my internship, I worked through a multitude of different tasks. Many of my tasks were contained on a working checklist, where I did everything from arranging the Advanced Robotics cabinet to helping to instruct the Intro to Robotics and Controls Class. Towards the middle of the internship, I did a lot work with the yearbooks by organizing them alphabetically, as well as distributing them to classrooms.

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: 

I was a “co-teacher”” if you will. Apart from teaching, however, among the many responsibilities I had over these weeks, my most prominent tasks were supervising classes, helping students out with their activities during class, making note of what the past 24 years worth of AP free response question included in an attempt to guess what next year’s free response questions will most likely include, and creating new honors precalculus notes based off of Mr. Lynott’s past year’s notes.

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: 

My experience as a student at Chatham High School helped me look at the experience of my internship differently. I had always been the student, but now I had a chance to be the teacher.

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience?

The most memorable aspect of my internship experience was the invaluable mentorship provided by Mr. Elgart. His supportive guidance allowed me to seamlessly transition into the role of a teacher, and his skillful approach in easing me into responsibilities was truly commendable. Witnessing how he fostered a comfortable and conducive learning environment for both students and interns alike was inspiring. Additionally, the opportunity to build relationships with fellow math teachers like Ms. Cordano and Mr. Sortino was enriching, offering me a fresh perspective on familiar faces.

Who would be a good candidate for this internship in the future? What qualities/skills/interests are important to have?

Sociable, approachable, professional, and problem solving oriented. A good candidate for this internship in the future would possess a genuine interest in education and mathematics, coupled with a willingness to learn and adapt. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for building meaningful connections with both students and colleagues, as demonstrated by the collaborative environment fostered among the math department teachers. Additionally, the ability to observe and learn from experienced educators, as well as the initiative to take on responsibilities and seek opportunities for growth, are key qualities that would make someone well-suited for this internship experience.

Reflecting on my internship experience, I am deeply grateful for the rewarding journey it has been thus far. Mr. Elgart's guidance has been instrumental in shaping my understanding of what it means to be an effective educator. From supervising classes to crafting new instructional materials, each responsibility has provided invaluable learning opportunities. One highlight of the week was the unexpected realization that my own notes from a previous class were being used as model notes, underscoring the impact of my contributions. While the transition to staying within the confines of the math department presented its challenges, it also offered a chance for growth and adaptation. Looking ahead to the next three weeks, I am inspired to emulate Mr. Elgart's teaching style, fostering connections with students and cultivating an inclusive and supportive classroom environment. As I continue to learn and adjust to my role, I am eager to apply the lessons and observations taken from these four weeks to further enhance my effectiveness as a teacher.

I interned at: Chatham Middle School

My internship experiences was (one or more words to describe it): My internship was rewarding and educational.

Describe your role and responsibilities during your internship: I assisted the students with any questions or projects when Ms. Goldberg was busy. I taught sound stations, and educated the students on the difference between frequency, pitch, amplitude, and volume. I designed and created a bulletin board and door art for Mrs. Goldbergs classroom. Lastly, I assisted her with any copies that had to be made. 

Describe how you think CHS prepared you for your internship: CHS prepared me for my internship because I understand what it is like to run a organzied and calm classroom because my teachers have showed me what that looks like. 

What did you love about your internship OR what is most memorable about your experience? I loved building relationships with the students and being back at the middle school where I have so many fun memories from. 

Who would be a good candidate for this internship in the future? What qualities/skills/interests are important to have? I think anyone that is talkative and social would be a great candidate for this internship.

I interned at Chatham Stone & Earth Products in Chatham

My internship experience was an incredible experience and very fun

During my internship I did labor at multiple job sites, took care of some accounting for the business, and shadowed the owner of the business.

I was prepared coming into this internship by CHS with skills I was taught they gave me the ability to work in a professional manner. 

Anybody who is hard working and/or has a good mind of business could be great to work here as there is a lot of opportunity to expand the company, but also a lot of hard physical work involved.
