Assalamualaikum and hi. For this week, I learnt about fungi. From the previous semester we also learnt about fungi but for this semester we learnt about fungi more deeper such as in their distribution, structure, their nutrition and metabolism, their reproduction, the benificial and harmful of fungi. Fungi was divided into tree group true fungi, fungi imperfecti and fungus-like that is slime molds and water molds. Fungi mostly found in high moisture habitat, majority terrestrial and freshwater or marine. Fungi has a close interaction between plant root that called as mycorrhizae and interaction between algae called lichen. It has thallus, the cell wall is made up of chitin and it has hyphae that is septate hyphae that contain septa.

The fungi is saprophytes where it is a desirable activity for recycling nutrient. it is also exoenzymes. Fungi absorb nutrient while mold use ingestive. Fungi reproduce either sexual ans asexual but many fungi can have both type of reproduction. The onset of reproduction is controlled by environmental factors such as nutrient level, carbon dioxide and light level. It reproduce asexually by bud formation for yeast, fragmentation and sporulation.

In true fungi it divided into phylum Zygomycota, Ascomycota, Basidiomycota, Chytridiomycetes and Deuteromycota. Slime molds and water molds were now placed in Kingdom Protista because of the differences in cellular organization, reproduction and life cycle. It is divided into Myxomycota: also known as plasmodial slime molds, Acrasiomycota a cellular slime molds and Oomycota.

Fungi has it harmful and beneficial. The harmful effect of fungus is it was a human pathogen (causes athlete's foot, asthma and hay-fever), as a animal pathogen and plant pathogen (causes late blight disease in tomatoes, potatoes and etc.). The beneficial effect of fungus is it is as an agents of biodegradation and bioremediation that produce wide range of extracellular enzymes and absorb pollutant into fruiting bodies, for industrial fermentation process, direct source of food and give benefit to agriculture, horticulture and forestry.

TQ
