How chest muscles, ribs, and the diaphragm work together to help you breath efficiently:

Lungs are found in the chest cavity, which is protected and enclosed by your ribs, chest muscles and diaphragm.

As you inhale your rib cage rises and your diaphragm contracts and moves slightly downward. This occurs in order to increase the size of your chest cavity. This causes the internal air pressure of the cavity to be less than the air pressure in the environment, therefore air rushes into your lungs to equalize the pressure.

When you exhale, your rib cage lowers and your diaphragm relaxes and moves upwards.

Your lungs are located in your chest cavity, surrounded by your ribs, chest muscles, and diaphragm. By inhaling, the rib cage rises, the diaphragm contracts and descends, and this increases the size of your chest cavity. This causes a decrease in internal air pressure in the cavity. Then, since the internal air pressure is less than the air pressure of the environment, the air rushes toward your lungs to balance the pressure.
By exhaling, the opposite happens- the rib cage lowers, the diaphragm relaxes/moves up. These actions decrease the size of the chest cavity. Because the internal air is at a higher pressure than the environment, air moves out of the lungs.
These actions, repetitively, give us the action of breathing, which allows us to survive.

Elisa

Air rushes into your lungs so that the internal pressure of the cavity and the air pressure is equal.

When one exhales, the rib cage happens to lower as the diaphragm moves up and relaxes.

Your chest muscles, ribs and diaphragm help us breath efficiently because when you inhale your rib cage rises and diaphragm contracts which increases the size of your chest cavity. The increase of the volume of the chest cavity lowers the internal air pressure and because that pressure is lower than the pressure of the environment, air flows into the lungs to equalize the pressure. The opposite happens when you exhale, rib cage lowers, diaphragm relaxes and the size of the chest cavity decreases. This allows the volume of the cavity to decrease making the air pressure higher then the outside environment which then makes the air move out of your lungs.
-Maddie

The lungs are found inside the chest cavity, and within the rib cage. it is also surrounded by chest muscles, and is situated above the diaphragm. When you inhale, the diaphragm contracts, causing the lungs to inflate due to the lack of internal air pressure. the chest cavity expands and the rib cage rises to accommodate for the space taken up by the lungs. In exhalation, the diaphragm relaxes and the rib cage lowers, decreasing the size of the chest cavity, and the lungs release air because the internal air pressure is now higher than it is outside of the body.

Our lungs are found in our chest cavity, they are protected by the rib cage and diaphragm. When we inhale we use our chest muscles to expand our chest cavity rises and lungs letting in more air. When we exhale it is the opposite and our chest cavity lowers and our lungs deflate pushing the air out of our lungs. The reason we can do this efficiently is because of our chest muscles because they allow us to control the way our lungs move.
-Amelia

There are many different organs that help you breath, such as the lungs and trachea. One of the main parts of breathing is your lungs, and this organ is located inside of the ribs, which is also surrounded by the chest muscles and the diaphragm. This means that when you breath and inhale, your rib cage rises, along with your lungs, while your diaphragm shifts downwards. Since there is an increase of volume where your lungs are, it causes a decrease in the internal air pressure. because the air pressure in the cavity is less then the pressure in the environment, the air rushes to the lungs to equalize the pressure. When you exhale, the rib cage contracts, making it lower, causing your diaphragm to move upwards. This motion decreases the size of the chest cavity. therefore the decrease in volume causes an increase in the internal air pressure. The internal air pressure is then higher then the environments pressure, resulting in the air moving out if the lungs.
- Mia
