My favourite image from the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2010 is titled "Master Chef" by photographer Andrew Sheargold. The image positions the subject in a bland and empty room, creating a dreary and downcast atmosphere which stirs a sense of sympathy from the viewer. Sheargold has posed an ethical question for the viewer to contemplate the reality of being an apprentice chef in contrast to the celebrity and fame of the popular TV show Masterchef. The lighting and composition of this shot inspires me to consider how to create mood and generate focus within my own images.
