I recently hiked this trail for the first time and enjoyed the feeling of remoteness and views of Chick Hill and beyond. We saw five mounds of bear scat which seemed like the bear/s had a regular "beat" or route they followed.

I also appreciate that the property is managed through a unique state-municipal-private partnership. The Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands owns the property but it will be managed jointly with the Town of Amherst, which will receive assistance from the Forest Society of Maine. The trail furthermore passes through a property that was acquired in part with funds from the Land for Maine's Future program.

The photo is of my daughter on one of the expose ledges looking to the South.

It backs up to more than 200 acres of private forestland that is posted so it is unclear what the entire forest complex looks like but from what we can see it has been heavily logged in areas. We have nesting barred owls out back, coyotes, snakes, frogs, toads, and a great mix of wood warblers. The forest is young with the canopy dominated by eastern hemlock, yellow birch, and red maple. Near the edges by the house are a lot of American beech and bigtooth aspen.
