Pi goes through a troubling time with religion. He bounces around form Hinduism, Catholicism, and Islam. Pi’s family slowly works into accepting his plural religions. Pi’s family decides to sell the zoo animals and immigrate to Canada. One night on the ship a storm struck the ship and Pi goes on board to see what is happening to the ship. Animals are in the water and Pi is thrown overboard by the crew with a lifeboat. He runs into the hyena and we all know what happened. Pi is stuck with Richard Parker and he plans to take care and train Richard. Pi ends up going temporarily blind and loses his mind. He has conversations with Richard parker about food. A french man who is also blind comes on the boat and he attacks Pi and tries to eat Pi but Richard eats the man. They land on an island but find out the island consumes everything on it.
