At one point in everyone's life, they have probably wanted to do some magic... Haven't you? If you have, the book "The Iron Trial," is the book for you. In "The Iron Trial," it is all about magic and those who use it, for bad or good. In this story, there is a person called "The Enemy of Death," who tries to use magic to defy and completely avoid death. According to Declan, the uncle of Callum, The Enemy of Death accomplishes this by, on the verge of death, putting his soul into the son of Alastair, Callum, who at the time was just a baby. The question we are asking today is, should Alastair, Call's father, have killed his son when he was a baby? We say he should have killed him. Killing his son would have killed the antagonist of the story, The Enemy of Death, and all his minions, in turn protecting the world from chaos. In addition, killing Call would have later on protected the Magisterium, the school for magicians.

Correspondingly, The Enemy of Death placed its soul inside of Callum when he was an infant. As The Enemy of Death was about to die, it placed its soul into the infant to continue living (Page 137). Meaning, the master of the Chaos-Ridden can be killed and the world of the mages can be saved. Saving millions of lives all for the cost of Callum’s life would put all mages in peace. All the Chaos-Ridden beasts which have chaos magic would cease to exist any more. With The Enemy of Death gone, mages don't have to study magic for the sake of protecting their own lives and children can live a normal life in the real world of normal human beings. With that in mind, mages that have followed The Enemy of Death would die out without a leader to guide them towards their goal. All of the suffering that mages are dealing with around the world can be relieved with just the death of one infant baby. Again, I believe the death of a baby for many more lives would be the right choice to take ,because more lives have more priority than your just one life.

Some readers may agree with Alastair’s choice to not kill Call as a baby. This however was a false move. In fact, if Alastair had killed Call, the Magisterium would be safe, the Enemy of Death, Call, would be dead, and the Chaos-ridden wouldn't have been after Aaron and Tamara. In the text, it is stated that when Declan had saved Call as a baby, the Enemy of Death put his soul in Call’s body. This in turn technically killed the child. Sarah, Call’s mother, noticed this and dropped the baby which explains how Call broke his leg. Without enough willpower left to kill Call, Sarah instead carved, “KILL THE CHILD” in the ice as a message to whoever sees it. In addition to this, if Call was killed in the beginning, there would be no more Chaos-ridden. The Chaos-ridden are beings, or, animals with chaos magic created by the Enemy of Death(Call). Chaos-ridden listen only to their Masters, the Enemy’s servants; therefore, if Call was killed as a baby, there would be no more servants of the Enemy essentially leading to no more Chaos-ridden. If there is no more Chaos-ridden, that means there is no more danger towards the Magisterium. A final reason to prove that killing Call would be the right choice would have to be the future. At the end of the story, Call becomes a Mage, a.k.a. a magician. Who knows what will become of this? Call may become stronger with training overtime and embrace his inner self. To conclude, I'd like to say once again that Alastair should have killed Call as a baby. If he had done this, the story would've ended in a lighter note.

As demonstrated above, Alastair Hunt should've killed Callum when he was a newborn. Itemized and justified above, Call had the soul of the Enemy of Death within him and the death of Call would lead to the demise of the Enemy of Death with a unguided army of minions. Another evidence that supports the claim is that killing Call would ensure the safety of all the students of Magisterium. The precaution of Call's death will also make certain that the Enemy of Death's minions won't be able to cause any chaos in the world as they won't have the leadership from the Enemy of Death. With both Death and his minions gone, it will ensure the safety of the society and for any other future students to come. Why, magic is truly full of mysteries and wonders which is yet to come. It seems like this is just an opinion of Alistair's actions. Do you believe that Callum should've been killed as a young child, or is it wrongful to take the life of human being?
