1. What suppressed wants, needs, and even memories force their way through symbolically in hallucinations for Macbeth?

Macbeth's hallucination of the bloody dagger symbolizes his suppressed desire to kill Duncan while the hallucination of Banquo at the dinner party brings up the suppressed memory of his part in murdering him. One of the apparitions brought about by the witches was a bloody a child which awakens Macbeth's memory of his dead child, reminding him he has no heir to continue his legacy.

2. What unconscious desires come through Lady Macbeth's behavior?
Lady Macbeth's desire to create a legacy and obtain the title of queen is illustrated through her manipulative behavior to make Macbeth king and turn him into a murderous monster. Another one of her desires is to become unsexed, and she does this by suppressing all of her feminine emotions and showing a false face. After her streak of manipulative and cruel behavior, she expresses her guilt of these crimes through sleep walking. While sleep walking, Lady Macbeth confesses to her parts in the murders and attempts to wash the blood off her hands and rid herself of the smell.
Makenna

We should view literature through psychoanalytic perspective because it can give a clearer image of ones true self if you understand that often time we hide parts of ourselves with others. We should still us it to analyze literature because it can give a deeper method to analyze character development.
Devon Smith

The conscious is such a small part of the human mind which is why it is represented as being a tiny part of ego and superego above water.
Kayla
