With the typical developing child, screening can help identify children who are developing on schedule and children who are at risk for developmental delays. During a screening, there are two types of assessments; ongoing and diagnostic.

As an educator, it is important to make sure that my students are developing at the proper rate. If they are not, it is vital that they are provided with resources to help their development.

Throughout this class we learned several types of emergency care protocols. We learned how to apply a tourniquet for severe bleeding, Diastat for seizures, an EpiPen for anaphylactic shock, glucagon for diabetes, CPR, and choking protocols.

It is important for educators to understand the basics of emergency care and first aid in the case of an emergency. Many students have seizures, allergies, and diabetes and there is a chance that a student may enter a state that requires emergency care. Additionally, some severe accidents may occur in a school which requires the use of a tourniquet, CPR, or choking protocols. Knowing this information is important to student safety as it may end up saving their lives.

Resources:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y81aJ81ln5Q

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS296g1y_sc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OC-dcDgmXuI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjmbD7aIaf0

Many students have illnesses or health conditions that impact their ability to learn or be in school. Some of these conditions include: allergies, asthma, Epilepsy, visual or hearing impairment, Diabetes, CF, Celiac disease, Crohns disease, Spina Bifida, cancer, Hemophilia, and many others.

In a classroom environment, it is necessary to be inclusive. It is important for all students to be treated with equity and be given the same opportunities as their peers, despite their health conditions. As an educator, I need to work with my students individually and figure out a plan for provide them with equal opportunities.

It is very common for school age children to contract communicable diseases. Ohio recognizes the following as communicable diseases: chicken pox, common cold, croup, diarrheal diseases, fifth disease, flu, hand foot and mouth, Hepatitis A, herpes simplex virus, impetigo, lice, measles, meningitis, molluscum contagiosum, mononucleosis, MRSA, mumps, pink-eye, pinworms, ringworm, RSV, scabies, scarlet fever, strep throat, yeast infection, and whooping cough.

This is important for me to know as an educator because I need to keep the classroom clean and sanitized to reduce the transmission of these diseases.
