He is old and wants to sit with the tree but all that is left is a stump. He sits with the tree and they are both happy. This is a good story to use in the classroom because it teaches the value of friendship. Shortly after, the children find that their house is a disaster and their mother will be home soon. They get angry at the cat but he has some tricks that will allow them to clean the house quickly and effectively. The story ends with the children talking with them mom and they are deciding if they should tell her about their fun-filled day. He is a normal boy that has a normal family. The life that the people in his community live is not normal though. Each family is only allowed to have one son and one daughter and they receive these children at the "Ceremony of One". There are specific women who are to get pregnant and have these children. Every December, the new babies will be given to their families. There are ceremonies for every age in December in which the people will get one year older. In the story, we see Jonas experiencing his "Ceremony of Twelve". This means that he will be given a job. He gets selected as The Receiver which is a very important job that is only given to one person every so often. The receiver has to bear all of the memories of the giver in order to become it. Jonas has to meet with the giver and receive the memories which can be a fun or painful task. The memories are about the past and the life that people lived. This life is way different than the one that Jonas lives. Jonas realizes how different these lives are and wishes for the way things used to be. He and the giver formulate a plan to escape and leave the community with the memories. To end the story, we see Jonas leaving the town and going through troubles. The stories are creepy but fun to read. They leave you curious and wanting more. At the beginning of the book, there is a section that tells you to read the stories slowly and quietly at night. Cinderella and her mice friends put together a dress from scraps. When the stepsisters see the dress, they destroy it. Cinderella is devastated as everyone leaves to go the ball. Then her fairy Godmother appear and gives her a dress and a carriage to the ball. When Cinderella gets to the ball, she has until midnight before her outfit and carriage go away. She meets the prince and dances with him all night. Cinderella lost track of time and realized that it would shortly be midnight and runs away, leaving one of her shoes behind. The next day, the prince sends someone around to have all of the women try on the slipper. Evil stepmother locks Cinderella in the closet but her mice friends get her out in time to try on the slipper. The stepmother trips the man and the slipper breaks but Cinderella has the other one. Once her stepmother and stepsisters leave, her “fairy God-ninja” arrived and provided her with a costume. Ninja-Rella gets very excited and hopes that the prince will hire her as his bodyguard. When she gets to the costume party, she finds the prince being attacked. She uses her sword to save him but them realizes that it is almost midnight. She runs away, leaving her sword behind. The prince then goes around to every house and tries to figure out who the sword belongs to. When he arrives at Ninja-Rella’s house, he discovers that it belongs to her. The stepmother says that then the invitation to the ball came out, she would allow Cindy to go but she lost her voice. When they were at the ball, they saw a beautiful girl with a gorgeous dress. The prince danced with this girl all night. A few days later, the prince was going around looking for the women who lost her shoe and wanted to marry her. The shoe didn’t fit the step mothers daughters but fit Cindy. She was amazed and mentioned that the prince didn’t know what he was getting himself into with Cindy. Cinder-elly’s sisters called him but the shoe didn’t fit them. Then the fairy Godmother appeared and gave Cinder-elly the outfit back so the prince would recognize her. The story ends with Raina finding a new group of friends that accepts her for who she is. Georgina, the girl, comes up with a master plan to steal a dog, wait for the owner to post a reward, and then return the dog and get the money. She finds the perfect dog to steal and does so with her brother. After she does this, she befriends the lady from whom she stole the dog. She suggests to the lady to put out a poster with a reward but the lady does not have a lot of money herself. The story focusses on Georgina and her thought process throughout the whole thing. She regrets her decision to steal the dog and ends up returning him for no reward at all.
