There is one more chapter in the How to Read Literature (Chapter 16) that this chapter relates to. "Sex Part part.1" The whole book you can tell Meursalt doesn't have the love Marie has for him. He has more lust than love. They had the connection of sex but not through love. "A minute later she asked me if I loved her. I told her it didn't mean anything but that I didn't think so." pg.35 // Their relationship is all physical and not emotional. When he went to prison, that's when Marie and him cut off because they were ripped from each other and wasn't able to feel physically. Red colors are associated with anger or sex, and are linked with Raymond and his ex-mistress.
