The following story details events that actually transpired very recently and might represent a few types of capital rather than just navigational (hopefully it showcases that too though!) I was bombarded with assignments for the week and thus feeling much more stressed out than usual. As a result, I was doubting my ability to complete the tasks well and felt like I was cooped up in my room, spending all of my time studying and writing. My mom is usually my source of comfort when it comes to emotion, so I went to call her but my dad answered the phone. As some dads may be, he cares deeply but he is not used to dealing with others' emotional expressions that are negative (that's my mom's "job"). While at first, when I confided in him, he did suggest that I toughen up in that classic fatherly way, but then he gave me advice that greatly helped me navigate my assignments and find the motivation to get them done. He told me to realize that my hardships are temporary and that they are not what matters most in life--it is my family and happiness. When I put things into perspective, I was able to complete my assignments remembering how fleeting a moment it would be in the context of my life and drawing upon familial support to get me through emotionally.

My AP Lang teacher in my junior year of high school helped me overcome my anxiety speaking up in class and speaking during socratic seminars each month. She would offer me a seat next to her and she supported me, but in a way that was only noticeable to me. She really helped me gain confidence.
