Walter and one of his friends decided to hang a boy in their neighborhood but they weren’t aware that what they were doing was bullying. The text “Bullying in Early Adolescence,” mentions how one's peers can play a big role in a person's actions. A reason for doing such things like bullying could be to attain some type of social status. “It is during adolescence that peer groups become stratified and issues of acceptance and popularity become increasingly important. Research indicates, for example, that toughness and aggressiveness are important status considerations for boys.” Walter might’ve been influenced to take action because of things he saw in the news and because of his friend. “..a boy close to my age suggested that we beat him up, but then we read news.. about a black man who had been hanged.. so we decided to hang Richard. The text “Bullying in Early Adolescence” touches on how some kids may not realize in the moment of what they were doing but it is still considered a form of bullying.
