This piece of music titled Jaago Bharat Ke Santan is an Indian nationalist song, sung in Urdu by Hindi singer and actor Sitara Begum, also known as Jyoti. She was born in 1921 in Fatehabad, Agra, in Uttar Pradesh, India and throughout her career, she sang 38 songs in 12 films. The title Jaago Bharat Ke Santan translates as ‘Awake, O Children of India’, and the song calls for the youth of India to rise up for the cause of Indian independence. The song, digitised by the Endangered Archives Programme, was released in India in 1940.
