Black America Since MLK: And Still I Rise by Jennifer Herrera Gerosa

African AMERICAN history has been made up of blood, enslavement, and the DREAM of equality.
2. Current social issues can be attributed to American history in terms of inequality of minorities. You can track inequality to the start of this country. Black Americans were faced with being a highly represented minority in Mass incarceration, before that it was jim crow and before that was slavery.

1. I learned that as Black people migrate to cities in search of work and opportunities, white people migrate to the suburbs, showing the severe obstacles that Black people face.

2. This is something we are dealing with b/c we see how white people try there best to move away from black people. Even when it comes to living in neignborhoods. we also see how black neignborhoods are not getting needs that white neignborhoods have like near by markets to get food.

3. In the future I hope America learns that all this hate that is spread was for no reason and honstly slomething that is embarresing for the white community. All this was not needed like why cant we live in peace?...its not that hard to not be racist.

1. The text talked about segregation in Chicago and how segregation affect america all around. MLK's influence was so big that not only was it a huge crowd people across america were buy TVs to watch his speech.
2. My connection to the text is that being Oakland is still a rough place it's still very racial and people get racial profiled everyday just for being black.
3. Our black community needs to work together more instead of turning against each other because we're the ones being targeted.

1) Things I learned about Black History in the past were that segregation was outlawed in the year 1964 which caused for an integration among white and black people, however, this still didn't solve the racial and social issues our society withholds.
- Whites continued abusing their power by oppressing African Americans.
- Formal laws may have been set, but that didn't imply the end of their oppression.
2) This knowledge connects to America's present because we are still battling these same issues. Although Jim Crow laws have been outlawed and many laws in support of African American's have been enacted, we still dehumanize them through other institutions in our society. Currently, we are demonstrating that through mass incarceration.
3) A lesson for America's future is that our society will manage to find a way to enact systems built solely for the intent of dehumanizing African Americans. Therefore, it is important to pinpoint exactly which system it is and take action as soon as we realize its intent.
