As a teacher, I find this article particularly relevant as it helps me understand people better and provides insights on how to create a welcoming classroom environment where everyone can get along.

Zacchaeus, a tax collector who was short in height, wanted to see Jesus. However, he couldn't because of the crowd, so he climbed a tree. Jesus noticed him and visited his house. Zacchaeus promised to change his ways and share his wealth.

Jesus also told a story about some servants who were given money to invest. While some of them did well with their money, one of them did nothing and earned nothing. The master rewarded those who did well and punished the one who didn't.

These stories teach me valuable lessons about forgiveness, responsibility, and standing up for what's right. We can use them as inspiration to encourage our students to be kind, responsible, and courageous.

These stories broadened my thinking more about repentance, redemption, and accountability, emphasizing that anyone can change for the better, regardless of their past.

One challenge that arises from these stories is how to deal with forgiveness and its implications for personal growth and social harmony.

Lutherans consider the grace of Jesus Christ to be essential for their spiritual life. Prayer and worship hold significant importance in their spiritual practices, even though not everyone may experience the Holy Spirit in the same manner.

Grace influences Lutheran schools by creating a welcoming and supportive environment, which encourages understanding and second chances instead of harsh punishments.

As a teacher, being graceful means providing support and understanding to students and colleagues, even when they make mistakes.

To understand grace better, I can think about what it means to be kind and forgiving, read about it in religious texts, and talk to others about their experiences with grace.

This article explains the importance of Christians helping and caring for others by being kind and helpful. It also says that accepting God's grace brings happiness and encourages us to help others.

Therefore, in our school, we should create a community based on love, forgiveness, and helping others, rather than just following rules. In addition, we should explain to students that Christianity is not just about following strict rules but about showing love and kindness.

This article connects with what I knew about more "Australians are saying they don't follow a religion, especially among younger generations". This aligns with the changing attitudes of teens towards organized religions in society.

The article introduces the concept of being "spiritual but not religious" and shares personal stories of people's spiritual experiences. This makes me think about how people find meaning in their spiritual lives beyond traditional religions.

The article challenges the conventional approach to teaching about religion in schools and urges us to think creatively about recognizing the different spiritual beliefs among students.

In my personal experience, my belief in God has been shaped by the idea that everything happens according to God's plan. I believe that from the day I was born, even before that, God had predetermined how I would be selected to be a child of my parents and a part of my family. I can see God's presence all around me, guiding and clearing my path to live my life. Just like how God spoke to people through prophets in the Old Testament and Jesus in the New Testament, I believe that all that surrounds me and everything that happens to me are evidence of God's creation and the message that he wants to convey.

And we can get the fullest understanding of God from the story of Jesus that comes from the Bible.

•       How does God’s Word form and inform Lutheran education communities and my role?

God's Word plays a significant role in shaping and guiding the community of Lutheran Schools. The school community receives the teachings of the Bible through various channels such as devotions, chapel, and Christian Studies classes. Every week, teachers from different faculties conduct devotions to share God's Word from different cultures and traditions, allowing for the exchange of ideas and opinions. The Chaplain of the school conducts chapel to connect students and staff with God's Word. Additionally, professional development programs, such as "Connect," assist teachers in staying informed about the importance of God's Word in education.

My reflection is based on the outline of this article given on Jonah’s story in the bible.

“1. Jonah Rebels and Flees (1:1-2:17)

Jonah is called by God to preach to Nineveh, but instead flees in the opposite direction. God sends a storm to stop Jonah and a big fish to save Jonah when Jonah is thrown into the ocean.”

There are times when Jonah, like many of us, is afraid to follow the path he believes is right, so he runs away from what he is supposed to do. We may experience similar situations in our lives, where fear of the consequences holds us back. However, it is important to understand that facing our fears and trusting in God's plan can lead to unexpected and positive outcomes.

“2. Jonah’s Song (2:1-10)

In the belly of the fish, Jonah sings a song of thanksgiving.”

I believe in our challenging circumstances, it's important to find thankfulness. Taking a moment to appreciate the good things can bring about a positive shift in our perspective. So, we should understand that even during difficult times, there are still reasons to be thankful.

“3. Jonah in Nineveh (3:1-10)

Jonah is delivered to Nineveh, where he preaches a short sermon and the entire wicked city repents. God does not destroy the city.”

I believe this teaches us about the power of change. At different points in our lives, we may find ourselves needing to transform either ourselves or those around us. This reminds me that even when a situation seems hopeless, there is always an opportunity for change.

“4. Jonah’s Lesson (4:1-11)

Jonah is angry that God spared the city, so he asks to die. God tries to teach Jonah that God loves all creatures–even sinners.”

I believe that this teaches us the significance of empathy, forgiveness, and understanding. There may be times in our lives where we struggle to show compassion to others, particularly those whom we consider unworthy. But we should always remember that God's love is all-encompassing, and practising forgiveness can lead to establishing a stronger bond with others.

As a teacher, this article is significant to me because it reminds me to treat every student with care and respect. It encourages me to create a friendly and welcoming classroom environment.

The article explains that education should not only focus on giving knowledge in various subjects but also on shaping students as individuals. It criticizes society's obsession with materialism and fame and suggests that education should aim for a more balanced approach.

As a teacher, this article reminds me that my role extends beyond teaching facts. It made me reflect on how I can help my students grow as individuals, considering values such as empathy and responsibility

It says our actions have an impact on both people and the environment, and it's important to consider how our consumer habits affect the planet, which seems challenging. 

As a teacher, my primary focus is to understand the unique learning styles of each of my students and help them achieve their academic goals. My goal is to cultivate a positive learning environment that fosters curiosity, honesty, and respect among everyone involved.

I have a particular passion for teaching Science and Maths. These subjects fascinate me, and I love sharing that enthusiasm with my students. Therefore, my aim is not only to teach subjects but also to create a supportive and inspiring atmosphere where students can succeed academically and grow as individuals. 

• What has brought you to this Lutheran school or ECS? 

During my Master of Teaching degree, I had the opportunity to complete my first placement at this school. I fell in love with the curriculum, the way teachers here support each other, and the friendly atmosphere. I preferred the school's focus on helping students become well-rounded individuals, rather than just emphasizing academics. The teachers here are amazing, always willing to help, and everyone interacts in such a positive way. My positive experience during my placement convinced me that this school aligns with my values and teaching style.

• What questions do you have about Lutheran education and your role?

As a newly joined teacher, I'm excited to learn more about how Lutheran education operates and how I can integrate it into my role. What are the key values that we prioritize here? Additionally, how to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment?

In Lutheran education, the fundamental principles are based on valuing each individual as a unique creation, cherished by God. It is dedicated to achieving excellence in both teaching and learning, with an approach that extends beyond academics. The aim is to nurture individuals intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, physically, and socially so that they can make a positive impact on the world. Lutheran education is based on values such as love, justice, compassion, forgiveness, service, humility, courage, hope, quality, and appreciation. It actively fosters caring environments and emphasizes collaboration with students, families, and others to cultivate meaningful relationships and a strong, supportive community.

• What questions emerge for you after viewing the sites and videos?

I appreciate the devotions that we have with the staff every Monday and Thursday. During these 15 minute sessions, we get to share, reflect, and pray together which sets a positive tone for the day. Additionally, on Wednesdays, we attend chapel sessions with our house groups. These sessions comprise Bible readings, prayers, and explanations of the readings, connecting them to our daily lives. It's not just a routine, it's an opportunity for meaningful reflection that can potentially impact and improve our daily lives.

I'm interested in learning more about how these practices align with the broader mission of Lutheran education. In addition, I would like to understand how service learning plays a role in shaping our understanding of service and justice.

- In what ways does the Lutheran Church incorporate the teachings of Jesus Christ into all aspects of learning and teaching within its schools?

- What kind of assistance does the Lutheran Church offer to teachers in its schools for their professional growth, especially related to theological training?

A quote that stood out to me was ''Young people today are finding ... old fashioned religion exactly that. Not to their liking,' says Gary Bouma AM, professor emeritus of sociology at Monash University, and an Anglican priest."   
I found this interesting because it simply says the today's reality that young people today are less interested in traditional religion due to outdated practices.

What this means for me and my role is as a teacher, I can get an understanding of what spirituality means which can then lead me to valuable discussions on community and representation with students.

What this means for our school / our classroom is understanding Creation Theology helps us to see each student as a unique creation of God and adapt our teaching to meet their individual needs and promote a diverse and inclusive classroom.

My learning plan is to talk to other teachers, and adults and ask their opinions and any experiences on the topic.

As a result, I will be able to love and forgive everyone unconditionally regardless of anything.

The article discusses how Christians are exempt from punishment as Jesus took it upon himself for them. This idea of forgiveness and extending a helping hand to others matches with my understanding of Christianity.

This got me thinking about the impact of faith on our actions. It also says how Christians maintain a balance between their freedom and their responsibility to assist others.

I had difficulty understanding how Christians manage to balance their freedom with their responsibility to help others. Though being bound by strict rules, they are still expected to help those in need.

The article explains humans as special creations of God, and the importance of caring for the environment, which aligns with my existing understanding of theology and our role in the world.

This article taught me about the responsibility of humans to take care of the Earth and all living beings. This concept is not a new thing to me, but it has made me think about the connection between spirituality and our actions in the world.

I find it challenging to comprehend how the theological concepts presented in the article align with scientific perspectives on human origins.

The article explains the significance of relationships in our lives, both with people and with God. It shows that our connections with others shape our personality and influence the way we live.

The article provides new ideas about how God's relationship with humanity is shown in the Bible. It made me think about how forgiveness and repairing broken relationships are important in our lives.

I wondered whether there are any ways to turn these broad ideas into practical actions, particularly in my teaching for example how to apply these concepts in real-life scenarios, such as creating better student relationships and a positive classroom environment.
