"And with this doubt, his whole statement fell into pieces, and I wondered if there wasn't something a little sinister about him, after all" (65).
Gatsby is someone who most people do not know if he can be believed. His stories are very obscure and they seem like something that no one person can do. This makes the reader question whether or not Gatsby is a trustworthy character in the novel.

Symbol - Gold represents money, especially old money and Gatsby is trying to convey that view through his outfits, car, and many objects in his life that all are the shade of yellow closest to gold.

"Then came the war, old sport. It was great relief, and I tried very hard to die, but it seemed to bear an enchanted life." (66)
This quote demonstrates Gatsby's dark past, although the reader is still unaware of certain things. It makes the reader question why a man, full of wealth and power, would want to die. Then his self-absorbed nature takes place when he states he has an enchanted life. The quote establishes more questions within the reader and reinstates his vainglorious personality.
