Tupac's narrative for this song is about how he believes the world needs to change. He raps about racism, drug addiction, and poverty.

Throughout the song, Tupac clearly believes that society as a whole needs to change and lists many things that need change.

The song opens by mentioning all of the aforementioned issues, and Tupac says: "Learn to see me as a brother instead of two distant strangers." He is combatting racism here and thinks that we should have better relationships with each other.

In verse 2, Tupac raps: "I see no changes, all I see is racist faces. Misplaced hate makes disgrace to races." Again, he is talking about racism, but now, he mentions how society is unchanging.

Also, during the chorus, the lyrics state "That's just the way it is," which seems to contradict what Tupac says about needing change throughout the song. I believe that Tupac wants change and views it as necessary, but he does not know how it would be possible given the circumstances of the 90s.

Tupac states during the interlude: "We gotta make a change. It's time for us as a people to start makin' some changes. Let's change the way we eat. Let's change the way we live. And let's change the way we treat each other." Tupac again reinforces the need for change in society and urges that it's time for change to begin.

My opinion on this song is that it is not only a catchy and well-written 90s hip-hop song, but also a powerful advocate for much-needed change in the world during the 90s.

I believe that Tupac understood that the solution to racism in America was not to create a separate society as the Black Panther Party wished but to get along and treat each other as brothers. Specifically, Tupac raps: "It's time to fight back, that's what Huey said. Two shots in the dark, now Huey's dead. I got love for my brother, but we can never go nowhere. Unless we share with each other." The Huey that Tupac mentions here is Huey Newton, co-founder of the Black Panther Party. Tupac's parents were members of the Black Panther Party. He references the party's ideology of creating a separate culture from whites by arguing that while he does respect Huey, the solution is not to make a separate society.

I do believe the message could have been pretty effective. Since Tupac was already dead when this song was released, it almost made the song seem more powerful. However, some people strongly dislike hip-hop and Tupac's use of what some people could consider profanity and racial slurs. For this reason, I believe that the song was very effective on anyone who was a part of hip-hop or enjoyed listening to it.
