Loyalty is one of the most essential parts of creating a sustainable community, household, or workplace. It means being faithful and committed to someone or something, which in this case, describes the Greasers perfectly. In many ways, people have shown loyal tendencies in the past for survival, such as in the story of the samurai in feudal Japan. They were committed to their lords and would rather die than betray them. Today, examples of loyalty lie in fans being faithful to sports teams and will support them even if they're losing. But lots of things have changed over the many decades but I think that loyalty has persevered over time and even evolved. But many people argue that the use of social media and technology has made it easier for people to comment and find new opportunities. This can lead to a greater sense of individualism and less need for loyalty toward other people. But back in the day, loyalty was needed more for survival because they had fewer opportunities and relied on their community for food to survive. For example, if you have a deal with someone to trade their crops for your fabric because they found a different person that would give them a better deal then that person that now is having more difficulties feeding their family got screwed over.

Yes, loyalty is more important than popularity or fitting in. It can be very tempting to prioritize social status or fitting in with a certain group, I believe that loyalty is a much more valuable trait to have in the future. Loyal is about being true to yourself and to the people you care about, even when it may not be the most popular or 'cool' thing to do. By being loyal to yourself, your friends, and family members you build trust, respect, and a sense of security and community that can be essential for your mental and emotional well-being. Being loyal to friends can assure that you will be surrounded by people that enjoy you for who you are and will be the last to judge. On the other hand, focusing on popularity or fitting can lead to changing yourself for other people or losing self-integrity. It can be extremely tempting to betray the people you love for social status. This could lead to feeling shameful or guilty which can damage your mental health or emotional health. Overall, I think that while popularity and fitting in may be important in the short term, loyalty is a more valuable trait to have in the long run.

Verbal irony is used in The Outsiders to create humour and show the difference between appearance and reality. For example when Ponyboy says “I’m not afraid of them Socs” but later in the story, we see that he actually is afraid of the Socs. He says this to look tough in front of his friends so it helps develop the characters and add depth to the story. Another example of verbal irony is when Dally says ‘I don’t like little kids”. This is ironic because later in the story we see Dally being kind and protective towards Johnny, who’s like a little brother to him.

Onen example of situational irony is when Johnny kills Bob to protext Ponyboy and himself, but they enid up having to run away and hide from the law. This is situational irony because Johnny and Ponyboy were trying to do the right thin, but it ended up making their situation worse. Another example is when Dally robs a story and gets shot multiple times by the police. This is situational irony because Dally was trying to prove he was tough and he didn’t care about the law, but in the end, he was killed by the law.

Socratic irony is used in The Outsiders when the readers see Ponyboy's Interactions with Cherry Valance. When Ponyboy first meets Cherry, a Soc girl, they have a conversation that involve Socratic irony. He was ignorant about the differences between Socs and Greasers, getting Cherry to explain her side. By pretending not to know, Ponyboy encourages Cherry to reveal her perspective and experiences, which helps him to gain a deeper understanding of the social stereotypes involved with both groups. Another example of socratic irony is Ponyboy's Conversations with Randy. Ponyboy has a conversation with Randy, a Soc who is questioning the purpose and consequences of the rivalry between the Socs and the Greasers. During their discussion, Ponyboy uses Socratic irony to question Randy's beliefs and find out more about his perspective.

Ponyboy Curtis realized that education was like a secret superpower, something that could change his life and help him escape the tough neighborhood he called home. Despite being a Greaser, Ponyboy was determined to pursue his studies and make a better future for himself.

He made a promise to himself that he would work hard and take his education seriously. Ponyboy knew that reading books and studying would open doors he never thought possible. He wanted to prove to everyone that he was more than just what people assumed of him. His friends didn't fully understand his determination at first, but Ponyboy explained it to them. He wanted to break free from the cycle of violence and poverty, and education was his way out. With the support of his friends, they formed study groups and helped each other with homework. They knew that by giving their all in education, they could all have a chance at a brighter future.

Ponyboy faced challenges along the way. Sometimes, it was hard to concentrate on his studies when there were so many distractions and obstacles in his life. But he never gave up. He stayed up late to finish assignments, got help from his teachers, and pushed himself to do his best.

As he progressed through school, Ponyboy's efforts paid off. He earned good grades and discovered a passion for literature. Graduation day arrived, and Ponyboy walked across the stage with his head held high. His friends cheered him on, proud of his accomplishments. With his diploma in hand, he knew that this was just the beginning. Ponyboy was determined to continue his education, attending college and pursuing his dreams. Looking back, Ponyboy was grateful for the day he recognized the importance of education. It had given him hope and a sense of purpose. He knew that no matter where life took him, he would always value learning and use it as a tool to create a better future for himself and those around him.

Dally Winston stood on the street corner, his eyes filled with a mix of weariness and regret. Instead of meeting a tragic end, he had survived the night that changed everything. In the days that followed, something shifted inside him, and Dally started a journey of self-reflection and redemption. He realized that his tough exterior had only masked the pain and loneliness that had consumed him. Dally wanted to change, to find a way to break free from the cycle of violence and rebellion. He began seeking guidance from his friends and mentors, opening up about his struggles and fears. With their support, Dally took small steps toward a better path. He attended therapy sessions, learning healthy ways to cope with his anger and frustration. Dally started to confront his past actions and get closure with the ones he had hurt. He apologized to Ponyboy and Johnny's family, acknowledging the pain he had caused. He wanted to show them that he was capable of changing. As time went on, Dally discovered his hidden talents and passions. He found himself loving art, expressing his emotions through paintings and sketches.

Gradually, Dally began to rebuild his relationships with his friends and the community. He volunteered at local organizations, using his strength and determination to make a positive impact. He became a mentor to troubled youth, sharing his own experiences to help them find a different path. Changing his whole life and personality was difficult, but Dally never gave up.

In the end, Dally became a beacon of hope, a way to prove that everyone deserves second chances.

If I had to get my best friends or close family members to describe me, I think they would say that I’m funny, kind, passionate about things I like, and calm on the outside but what you see is not what you get with me. I think that I’m athletic, messy, ambitious and that I’m always up for trying new things and trying new experiences. I talk a lot when I’m around my friends or someone that I’m comfortable with so they know a lot about me like my favorite food, color, animal, etc. When they look at me they see a short half-Asian girl with dark brown eyes and black hair but sometimes brown when in the sun. I have some freckles littered on my cheeks and olive skin. As I said earlier I enjoy trying new things and that has resulted in me having lots of hobbies and pastimes to keep me off my phone. I love reading and listening to music, and sometimes at the same time, I like mountain biking, going for walks, hanging out with friends, and doing sports. Most of my life I've spent trying to find a sport I like and that I can commit to and I’m happy to say I finally found some that I enjoy and will be continuing for as long as I can. The first sport is soccer. I've been playing soccer since I was 4 and I love playing it. I like running and I like kicking things so I figured playing soccer would be the perfect fit for me. I’ve played recreational my whole life for WOSC but recently I’ve been playing for OSU which is much more demanding because of the distance of the practices but the coaches are much better. The second sport is cheerleading. I started doing cheer 3 years ago when I was doing gymnastics and my best friend Emilia was doing cheer. She told me to try it because I wasn't enjoying gymnastics and it was one of the best decisions ever. I love how in cheerleading we work as a team and how we have a routine to follow. Even though it is extremely demanding with competitions all over Ontario to some in Niagara Falls, Boston, or Orlando Florida. I love how in cheer I’m constantly learning new things like tumbling (flipping), there's always space for improvement and new skills. In the future, I aspire to do competitive soccer next year or in the future, as it's always been on my basket list to have an actual team to play with, celebrate with, and go to mean dinners. Even if that means giving up a cheer for a year because it wouldn’t work doing two demanding competitive sports at once. There are so many things that I want to do with it in the future with cheer. I’ve improved so much over the years with cheer and I know that I will continue to improve in the future. On my bucket list, I want to get level 6 tumbling which is stuff like a full or a double full which is one of the most known skills in level 6. Another thing on my bucket list is to win Worlds, worlds are the biggest cheer competition of the year. It takes place in Orlando FL and teams from all over the world compete to be the world champions.

What is the main problem with stereotypes?

There are examples of stereotypes in every corner of the world but in some cases they help keep us safe, here are some pros and cons of stereotypes in the world today. Stereotypes can be harmful because they assume that everyone in a particular group is the same.In The Outsiders, the Socs are seen as wealthy and privileged, while the Greasers are seen as poor and uneducated. These stereotypes prevent the characters from getting to know each other and lead to conflict and violence. One stereotype in the book is that the Socs are mean and heartless, while the Greasers are troublemakers. But this is not fair because not all Socs or Greasers are the same. Some Socs might be kind and understanding, while some Greasers might be good-hearted and caring. Stereotyping them just because of their social class is not right. In real life, we also see stereotypes. For example, people might think that all women are bad drivers or that all girls are bad at sports. But these assumptions are not true for everyone. People are unique and have different abilities, talents, and interests, regardless of their race or gender. Stereotyping can make people feel like they have to fit into a certain mold, and it can limit their opportunities and choices. In my own life, I've experienced stereotypes too. Some people might assume that because I'm Asian, I’m super smart and that I’m amazing at math. But that's not true, math is my worst subject and my white friends get better grades than me. I experience stereotyping on a day to day basis and it almost makes me think poorly about myself. Thinking what aren't I smarter or why did I get that grade because I’m trying to live to other people's expectations. On the other hand stereotyping can be used to keep us safe because it helps us have knowledge and respond quicker to a situation you or someone has been in before.

The nature imagery of this poem is of life cycles. For examples changes in seasons, life and death of plants, colours in the natural world, growth and aging, opposites like day and night, young and elderly, new and old. The poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost uses nature to talk about how things in life don't last forever. The poem talks about the changes in seasons. It says that when spring comes, everything is new and fresh. The leaves on trees are a pretty golden color, like gold. But as time goes on, the leaves turn green and lose their shine. This shows that things don't stay the same and that everything has a cycle. It also talks about how plants go through life and death. The leaves start off bright and full of life, but eventually, they fade and fall. This is like how living things grow and get older. It shows that life is temporary and that nothing can stay young and beautiful forever. The poem mentions the colors we see in nature. It says that the golden green of the leaves is the hardest color to keep. This means that the most beautiful colors are the ones that don't last long. It reminds us that even though things can be really pretty, they won't stay that way forever. The poem also talks about opposites. It says ‘So dawn goes down to day’, everything in life has its opposite. It mentions young and old, showing that people and things change as they get older. It also talks about new and old, showing that nothing stays new forever. The poem reminds us that everything in life is temporary and that we should appreciate it while it lasts. It shows how things change with the seasons, how plants grow and die, and how colors can be temporary. It also mentions how things grow and get older, and how there are opposites in life.

What is Robert Frost suggesting with each use of this type of imagery?

I think that Robert Frost is suggesting that despite how beautiful and how solid things appear, or how you love it and want it to stay the same, nothing is permanent. "Nature's first green is gold": He suggests that when things are new and fresh, they are beautiful and precious, just like the golden green leaves in spring. It's a way of saying that beginnings are special and should be cherished. "Her hardest hue to hold": Frost is saying that it's difficult to keep things beautiful and perfect for a long time. The imagery means that the most amazing and captivating things don't stay that way forever. "Then leaf subsides to leaf": He’s saying that everything goes through changes and eventually loses its beauty. The imagery shows that the vibrant and golden leaves become ordinary and green as time goes on."So Eden sank to grief": That even the most perfect and happy places can turn sad and disappointing. By mentioning Eden, he refers to a paradise that was lost, symbolizing the idea that nothing can stay perfect forever. "Dawn goes down to day": Robert is suggesting that the peaceful and beautiful moments in life don't last forever. The imagery compares the calmness of dawn to the busyness and regularity of daytime, showing that even the most wonderful moments come to an end.

What is Robert Frost suggesting with each use of this type of imagery?

How can this poem relate to The Outsiders and its characters?

The characters in "The Outsiders," like Ponyboy and his friends, are young and innocent. They have dreams and hopes, but they face a world full of violence and stereotyping. Just like in the poem, the book shows that youth and innocence don't last forever. It's like a reminder that good things can't stay perfect forever. In the poem, Frost talks about how even paradise, like Eden, can turn into sadness. This connects to "The Outsiders" because the characters go through tough times and lose their innocence by the unimaginable thing that they experience throughout the story. Their lives are far from perfect, and they have to deal with violence and challenges. The poem says that beautiful things and moments don't last long. This relates to "The Outsiders" because the characters have moments of beauty and connection, like when Ponyboy and Johnny thought they would be best friends forever but when Johnny dies it shows that not even their golden friendship could be saved.. It reminds us to appreciate the good moments and find beauty in the midst of tough situations. Just like the poem talks about the changing seasons and nature's cycles, "The Outsiders" shows how the characters change and grow. They go through experiences that force them to become stronger and more mature. It's like a reminder that life is always changing, and we have to adapt and grow with it.

Write a theme statement that focuses on this poem and what you have read so far in the novel.

In the poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost and the novel "The Outsiders" show that innocence and beauty are fragile and don't last forever, reminding us to cherish the precious moments we have and appreciate the goodness in life, even in the face of challenges and loss. Both the poem and the novel teach us an important lesson about the temporary nature of innocence and beauty. Just like the golden green leaves in spring, the goodness and purity we find in life are fleeting. In "The Outsiders," Ponyboy and his friends experience the harsh realities of their world, which threaten their innocence and dreams. The poem echoes this idea, reminding us to value and hold onto the beautiful moments, even when they are short-lived. It encourages us to appreciate the goodness around us, even in difficult times, and reminds us to find strength and hope against the challenges we face. What the Greasers faced in their life and how people treated them was unfair. If there hadn’t been such stereotyping in their town Johnny and Dally wouldn’t have been dead and the Greasers would have gotten along because everyone would be seen as the same and judged on their personality and not just what they wear or how they talk. In the poem ‘Nothing Gold Can Stay’ when Ponyboy and Johnny we’re admiring the beautiful golden sunset, I think that was a reflection on how Johnny and Ponyboy are different from the rest of the gang because they are the only ones that enjoy sunsets and enjoy the little beautiful things that make the world a better place instead of focusing on all the wrong in his life such as the rumble or Bob’s murder.
