In order to implement the Schlieffen Plan, which was created in the past by General Alfred von Schlieffen, Germany invades Belgium. Germany's location makes a two-front war with France and Russia quite likely. As a result, the strategy directs Germany to swiftly destroy France before turning to Russia. The Schlieffen Plan instructs German soldiers to march through neutral Belgium before heading south behind French lines to encircle and subdue the French army. This will guarantee German victory in France. Germany invades Belgium as a result.
