After watching the ted talk with health psychologist, Kelly McGonigal, I learned that people who had a lot of stress in the previous year had a 43% increased risk of dying, but that was only for the people who believed that stress is harmful for your health. People who had a lot of stress, but didn't view stress as harmful were not more likely to die, they had the lowest stress percentage. Over eight years they were tracking deaths and 182,000 Americans died permanently not from stress but from the belief that stress is bad for you. Isn't that insane? That would make believing stress is bad for you the 15th largest cause of death in the US last year. So what Mrs. McGonigal realized is that changing how you think about stress will make you healthier and science has proved this.

I'm going to be honest, the video scared me a bit. I am known to constantly be stressed, which stresses me out more and I definitely view it as a negative thing. So hearing that that increases my chances of dying...STRESSES ME OUT! I'm definitely going to try to chill out a bit and learn some more coping skills and ways that I can view stress as a less negative thing because I value my life and I don't want to die over something as simple as this. lol

I have quite a few panic attacks from stress and it does not help when the psychologist said it can increase your chance of dying. Luckily I know of activities that I can do to help manage my stress before it gets out of control.

While watching the video I had many thoughts connecting to each statement that Kelly McGonigal said. I am a person to get stressed over the smallest things, which has been a work in progress to control over the years. I never once thought that anxiety and stress can be seen as someone thing other than my enemy. A new perspective is what I need when dealing with stress. Of course changing perspectives of something you seen as an enemy for so long will take time. After watching this video I have made a decision to take charge over the anxiety and stress I feel and make it into something that I view as my strengths and not my weaknesses.

I get stressed extremely easily, especially when dealing with the unknown, but now I am potentially losing years of my life because of it. In the near future, I need to relax more and transform the bad stress into good stress. With finals it is difficult to be not stressed out but I know eventually I will learn to deal with the pressure and the worry to instead be confident.

It was interested to learn that it's not stress that unhealthy for you it's the belief that stress is unhealthy that is bad for you. However this does make a lot of sense. This is similar to placebos. If this were not true then I believe that placebo medicine wouldn't work because it doesn't do anything beneficial other than make you think it's benefiting you. So stress really is my friend because it tells me what I need to be doing better. It is good to know that viewing stress in a positive way can help.

This TED talk was very interesting to be because I have always been taught that I should always try not to stress because it will do more harm to me than good. I've been told that some stress is good because it can encourage you to get things done, but too much will start to take a toll on your body. After viewing this video, being stressed does not scare me as much as it did before. I now can see how important it is to not isolate myself during stressful times and that I actually need to surround myself with people. who care about me.

This subject was interesting to me because I never really saw stress as a bad thing. I think stress is that responsibility inside my head telling me to get my responsibilities in order. I really thing stress helps challenge and motivate me to finish things. I understand that accumulating too much can be harmful, so I stay vigilant and remind myself to see my friends, do something fun once in a while.

The TED talk was very informative. Changing your perspective around stress is what the eye opening part was. I now understand how commonly stress is confused with the belief that you have stress. Its normally to have a little amount of stress. The reaction that people get from stress is normally as it is preparing you for the situation your int.

I enjoyed watching this TED talk because stress is something very common for college students to experience, so hearing the advice the speaker has to give us about how to view stress is a more positive way is helpful. I liked how the speaker helps the audience understand that we need to experience stress. She also explains very well how we can see the health effects of stress in a good way rather than a harmful way.

I was very surprised to find out that thinking that stress is bad for you is worse for your health than stress itself. I think it was a very interesting ted talk how thinking about stress in different ways helps you be less stressed out. I also thought it was interesting that stress has built in functions to counter stress. This made me see the importance of looking at stress in a constructive way.

As college students, we all have stress that we're dealing with, and this TED talk gives a great perspective on stress and a whole new way of looking at it. Stress is normal for everyone and just taking it in a new way could be very beneficial. It is good to know that having this other perspective of stress can really benefit you, I will hopefully start to realize this and implement it into my lifestyle.
