because it was during some pretty hard times financially

and economically. People didn't have a ton of money and

music was a cheap and fun way of entertainment. It was

available to anyone that had a radio. It was new and

exciting and a cheap way for people to have entertainment

during tough times

Jazz bands usually were made up of 15-20 people who

played at dances, on the radio, and even in movies.

in the 30's. Swing Music usually had larger orchestras and

was identified by a strong rhythmic beat. An interesting

fact about swing music was that it was very african-american

dominated. This was pretty unusual for the time period.

Swing music also inspired a new kind of dance called the

"jitterbug"

a few songs and it was surprisingly good. I also think it was cool

how music was so popular because it was cheap. I think it is cool

that it helped people through tough times and meant a lot to

them as a form of entertainment and fun. Lastly, I thought it was

interesting how some of the most popular music in this time

period was dominated my african-americans. I was surprised

because usually people didn't accept or like the african-american

culture.
