The name of the film suggests an animalistic nature, almost as if the little girl is be the prey. It also has connotations of chasing someone, almost as if it were a game. Similarly in the film Captivity, the name of the movie evokes a sense of danger and makes the audience feel trapped, it is a straight up title which sets out the plot of the story and makes the audience think that it's a story of someone who was held captive.

Using the house as the main part of the set lets the audience to see into the characters life and how they react to abnormalities in their 'safe haven'. However in our opening sequence we see and child and mother in their home. The child plays with a car toy and is casually dressed similarly to the mother. This goes against the conventions of a psychological thriller.

Panning is used to show how the character moves and makes the scene more interesting as it gives the audience something to watch for a longer period of time. Another Psycho thriller that uses this is 'split' it creates a spinning sensation for the audience making them feel as if the film has become part of their reality.
We challenged the 180 degree rule and the conventions of real media as in some films that I have seen within the same psycho-thriller sub-genre decide to overturn the rule and have a 360 degree shot, i found that in our opening sequence it helped to add an effect of suspense and movement into the opening scene which then added a heightened feeling of something being wrong. We carried out the panning by placing the tripod that we were using on a chair and moving the chair around the table so that we would get various different angles in one shot and therefore get a sense of constant movement.
Another shot that I think challenged the conventions of our genre was the panning across the graveyard where Ruby went to visit Fred's grave, I think this would not have been done in a real film because there's the risk of showing too much and then not having the enigma code.
We followed the camerawork convention when it came to hiding the identity of the ghost at first by setting the camera at an angle in which the ghost couldn't be seen similar to the way in which it is done within the movie Captivity.
The camerawork that is used in 'House at the end of the street is different from the camerawork that we used in our opening scene 
because it shows the face of Ryan Jacobson and the type of shots that are used are similar to the ones that you would see if you were watching a movie that follows somebody's everyday life.

We stuck to conventions of editing effects that could be used in thriller movies, an example of one effect that was added in the movie Captivity is the exposure effect which adds a sense of secrecy and lack of knowledge which makes the audience feel unsafe, and in a similar way we used layering within our opening scene to evoke emotions such as a rush of movement and energy. 
The editing techniques that are used highlight the suspense that 'House at the end of the street' has highlighted as well as the action that takes place, just as "Carrie Ann" is first shown it cuts to black as she starts to move towards the girl which leaves the audience hanging and makes them think about what is happening to the other girl who is in the same room as "Carrie Ann". ]]> 2017-01-02 21:04:51 UTC https://padlet.com/naomi_freeman1/49zjkj8u1bq6/wish/145003604 Title font, style and colour: naomi_freeman1 https://padlet.com/naomi_freeman1/49zjkj8u1bq6/wish/145047727 This title suits the genre because it has very bold clear lettering with rough edges, this meant that it creates the element of suspense and fear within the audience, enhancing the psychological aspect of our opening sequence. 
The colour of the font juxtaposes the dark theme of the opening scene, this is following the conventions of real media products such as the  film Se7en which also uses white font. 
Another film is Captivity where the font of the titles is simple and easy to read and the colour of the font also juxtaposes the dark theme of the movie. 
Also in 'House at the end of the street' the font of the titles is simple and easy to read like the one we chose for our opening scene, it has a glow around it which makes it stand out even more and the yellow colour helps for the audience to still be able to read it when it is put against the dark backgrounds. The only clue given in our narrative is the grave scene as it is the glue to the rest of the opening sequence. The opening scene outlines the main facts of the story, it shows Isabella at Fred's grave and then having flashbacks/paranoia about her childhood. It shows that Ruby's child is able to see Fred, whom has come back from the dead for revenge after what Ruby did to him.
The plot line of our opening story is developing real media conventions as it is a story that you might have heard of before, however rather than the person that is haunting the victim being of a similar age, it is someone who is older.
This leads to the audience being left hanging as to why Fred is obsessed with Ruby's child and what he might do... will he really kill Ruby's child?

However Freddie is foreshadowed with the graveyard scene as he is a key character in the narrative of the story. We used the conventions of real media products when it came to characters in the movie, they are the types of characters you would see in a movie like this, a young girl who is being haunted by a man who wants revenge after the girls mother hurt him. The girl is portrayed as being vulnerable as she can't do much about the situation she's in.
Another character ridden with the yearning for revenge in the film 'House at the end of the street' id Ryan Jacobson whom is forced to become Carrie Ann (his sister) after her death due to his parents blaming him. For example, we layered the shots so that there was more depth to the shots and to bring a sense of disillusionment within the character. This allows the audience to become more involved and understand whats going on inside Rubys head, this then allows them to be involved in the film.
