ChineseIn the later portion of chapter 1, the author labels the section "The Aromatic Molecules of Cloves and Nutmeg". He writes about how cloves have eugenol and nutmeg has isoeugenol. Those two aromatic chemicals only differ in the placement of one double bond. He goes on to talk about the uses of the two aromas saying the even used the clove smell for breathe "sweeteners". More importantly, he talks about how isoeugenol in nutmeg may have been used as a deterent to the back plague (bubonic plaque) carrier animals. As said in the beginning there is only a difference in one double bond of the two Aromatic chemicals, as well as having very few differences to even ecstasy.
