The National Organization for Women, also known as NOW was is an organization that sought equal liberties for women in American society. Founded by Betty Friedan, a famous feminist writer, Pauli Murray, and 26 other women in a hotel room in Washington, D.C., in 1966. NOW has accomplished tons of things that transformed gender roles in American society, but is most famous for its fight against equal respect and pay in the workforce, and enforcing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (no discrimination based on the employee's sex, race, color, nationality, or religion). NOW uses legal, marches, lobbying, and media to spread awareness of their cause, inspired by the Civil Rights Movement. NOW single-handedly built the foundation for the second wave of feminism, still making a difference today in modern society.

While NOW didn't have an exact headquarters location starting out, they were based in D.C. This is important because it was part of the reason they were able to get involved in government in legal protesting, because they were so central to the brain of America. The red pin is where they are located today, only a couple of blocks away from the white house.
