This short article summarizes healthy parts of friendships and how you can make one better. One thing that stood out to me was “Be honest about your feelings.”  If it weren’t for being honest, I think I would have lost a lot of people in my life. I have had friends tell me things I did that unintentionally upset them and it is vital that we talk about it so I can improve my actions in the future. Another important thing is “Stay in touch.” Staying in touch with friends, no matter how small the gesture is vital to making a person feel valued and cared for.

This article is the Mixed Marriage Act. It is an act that prohibited sexual relationships and marriage between white people an dother race groups in South Africa. In the book “Born a Crime'' the discussion of interracual relationships is very important because Trevor Noah has a black mother and a white father. Him being mixed, was the reason for how he was treated and for how his mother had to act around him. She walked across the street from him so people wouldn’t think that Trevor was her child. People knew him as the “mixed child”. His parents' relations were illegal at the time and they lost people’s respect when they found out Trevor was mixed. Not to mention, if the wrong people found out, you could get yourself arrested. This is all shown by a quote in the book, “If an interracial couple got caught, God help them. The police would kick down the door, drag the couple out, beat them, and arrest them. (Page 76, Born a Crime)” This deeper dive into interacial marriage taught me the lesson of diversity in our lives and how much we can blossom from differences. For so long, differences in everything, especially race, were seen as illegal, disgusting, and less than human. It is beautiful to me that in today's society I can talk to, be friends with, and date whoever I please. It has taught me to be grateful for the freedom we have, given how far we’ve come. Our society and institutions have miles to go, but I have learned to cherish differences for what they are and embrace the fact that we all have unique values and experiences.

We had a long unit of religion in history and it taught me a lot about different cultures and gave me a better understanding of world religions. I realized what an important unit this was. In the article it says, “Pew’s findings show that Americans have much to learn about the world’s religions.” This quote shows the findings from a poll about the knowledge Americans possess about religions all around the world. This topic is important for grasping ideas from other countries and understanding more about our own country.
