Think about adding an accent strip. Here I’ve used four different accent strips. Accent strips can be wild or mild. And they don't have to be the same throughout the quilt. All the lights and darks are the same; only the mediums vary. That's one way to approach your fabric choices. I take a different approach now. This is the Omnigrid 98 ruler that I use. There's also a 98L, which is the same but bigger. Either will work.

There are a lot of 45-degree triangles out there and many of them will work for this project. The important thing is: THE LINES ON THE RULER HAVE TO BE PARALLEL TO THE LONG SIDE OF THE RULER!
