The hajj is important to anyone who is physically and financially able to make the trip to Mecca. 

If one is not able to do the hajj they need to have someone stand in and do the pilgrimage for them.

when a pilgrim is about 10 miles from Mecca, he/she enters a state of holiness and purity this state is called ihram, the ihram, wardrobe, consisting of white seamless sheets these sheets are then wrapped around the body.The pilgrim will not cut his hair or nails until the end of the pilgrimage is over.Then the pilgrim enters the shrine and walks seven laps around the ka'bah.
