Atticus Finch, Scout, and Jem all have qualities that allow them to empathize with others throughout the book. One of the most notable quotes from the book is when Atticus says "climb into his skin and walk around." This demonstrates his understanding of the need to empathize with others. 
Atticus is a very wise man and he tries to teach this lesson of empathy to Scout and Jem early on in their lives. This emphasizes the importance that the author feels about empathy as well as Atticus because teaching this lesson at an impressionable age is crucial. This picture depicts a nurse holding the hand of her patient. This demonstrates empathy because the nurse is truly trying to feel the pain and hurt that the patient is by sticking with him/her. She is trying to not only make the patient feel better physically, but mentally and emotionally comfort her as well. This shows the value Boyd places on empathy in the workplace, not just with peers, friends, or family. It shows that humans naturally tend to be empathetic beings towards others. The Joker experiences a lot of hate and bullying by people in the movie, and if he had experienced just the slightest bit of empathy maybe his story would have turned out differently.
