My social work clinical skills are limited to using assessment tools. Primarily, I use evidence based assessment tools to determine the most appropriate housing intervention. I also find myself using strength based methods when interacting and providing direct services to needed community members.

My official job title is Senior Substance Abuse Counselor, although I am actually a substance use disorder counselor according to the changes in the DSM-5. I perform suitability assessment interviews with prospective Adult Drug Court participants using the ASAM Criteria and make recommendations that sometimes include residential treatment before enrollment into our outpatient program. My duties also include intakes, ongoing assessments, treatment planning, facilitating group counseling, individual counseling, case management, crisis intervention, appropriate referrals, and discharge planning.

I do not have very many photos from which to choose as I have never been a fan of having my picture taken or being on camera. I recently came across this photograph that includes (from left to right) my mother, aunt, grandmother, father, and little me rocking the bowl cut.

My clinical experience includes working as a certified substance use disorder counselor in a harm reduction clinic and as a housing navigator for a housing resource center. Those experiences have included case conferences, clinical supervision, assessments, treatment plans, interventions, exit planning, and case notes. I also completed my bachelors internship with a hospice organization shadowing a clinical social worker. I look forward to building upon the skills I already have and gaining new insight in to clinical social work. This is a picture of me and my best friend Copper at the beach.

My experience includes volunteering at a domestic violence residential shelter where I worked with the mothers and their children. I helped the children learn to socialize appropriately , taught them anger management skills and assisted them with their homework. I assisted the mothers with case management tasks, such as building their resume, searching for employment and improving their parenting skills. During my BSW internship, I provided mental healthrehab services to school aged children and worked with a mom on her parenting skills. I utilized the nurtured heart approach which is a strengths based approach. I am excited to learn more clinical skills that I can utilize with my future clients.

My experience includes 9-years of working in a residential treatment center for Native Americans. With 7 1/2 of those years being a substance use disorder counselor. I currently utilize the DSM-5 and ASAM criteria in assessments and case management, and motivational interviewing, strengths perspective, and resilience theory as counseling inteventions.

The bulk of my clinical experiences come from time spent as a Medical Social Worker in triage with hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, administrators, etc. primarily in an advocacy role and in addition to peer counseling sessions for the patient/client. I performed in this role for a total of four years with VERY different populations! The first round was with elders and end of life care and the other population was the queer/transgender community of SF and surrounding areas. What a rush :)

All of my clinical experience comes from working at Hospice. I worked primarily in the admissions department assessing patients and enrollment into services. A lot of my work was focused around symptom management (primary physical) and eligibility. I look forward to learning about other peoples clinical experiences!

The vast majority of my social work experience has been in survivor and victim services as a domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse victim advocate for nonprofit and county organizations. Currently I am practicing as an emergency response social worker within child welfare services and a forensic interviewer. Although clinical assessment has been necessary for each of these roles at varying levels, I feel that my largest area for growth as a social worker is in the area of clinical social work practice. I look forward to this course and broadening my knowledge base as it pertains to clinical social work practice.

My social work experience in the last 8 years has been varied. I have worked as an advocate/counselor with victims/survivors of DV, as a social worker in a supportive housing program in the Tenderloin, and as a social worker for Calworks Family Stabilization Program/Housing Support Program/a new initiative targeting executive functioning skills with first time mothers in welfare. Most of my clinical experience comes from administering assessments, drafting treatment plans, coaching around executive functioning skills, and working in mostly clinical settings. My biggest clinical experience to date is my internship last year. I was a 'mental health intern' with Instituto Familiar de La Raza in SF, and I provided therapy to gay, immigrant, mostly low income/monolingual Latinos with HIV. During this time, I provided individual therapy, completed clinical assessments (first time diagnosing through the DSM) and treatment plans. I have always felt a bit out of my depth with clinical work - you cannot 'fake it 'till you make it'. The more and more I do it, though, the more it all comes together. The biggest thing that I lacked, particularly during my internship, was tools in my toolkit. How does one get those!? Theory can only take you so far! =)

Hello everyone!
Most of my clinical social work experience has been in the field of substance abuse counseling. I have had the privilege to work in many different settings (inpatient, outpatient, correctional, community, etc) and with many different populations (adolescent, adult, pregnant/parenting women, veterans etc). I have recently had the opportunity to focus my work in the area of trauma and combat PTSD. I have been able to practice skills in assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, intervention, case management, and group/individual therapy techniques. I enjoy clinical social work and hope to deepen my knowledge and skills throughout this course.

My clinical social work experience is pretty limited. Most of my experience is based on what I have learned in the classroom and through observation. Currently, I do intake assessments for people applying for In Home Supportive Services so I conduct a 1-2 hour assessment going over their functional abilities and how it relates to their abilities to complete their activities of daily living. I hope to eventually become an LCSW and so I am looking forward to honing my clinical skills in this class.

I have worked with the Department of Social Services in The County of Fresno. I have been with the department for eight years now four in Eligibility (non-assistant food stamps and medical) and four years in Welfare to Work as a Job Specialist. I have my bachelors in Social Work. I have done various assessments, and case plans in my employment for CalWorks clients. I have had minimal experience with Child Welfare from my undergrad. I have also done one year of mentoring and group counseling with at risk youth who are incarcerated.
I have an interest in mental health and exploring if continuing with my ultimate goal to become licensed is still feasible. I have experience with other colleagues within the relam mental health and I know that I have the capability to be in that environment.

My experience in social work has been limited to a little over four years in Child Welfare in Mendocino County Family & Children's Services. That experience has been rich because I haven't focused primarily in the normal areas of case management, but have been able to work in group facilitation, both internally and with families. It's that experience that has piqued my interest in clinical social work. Although my experience is limited, my curiosity is there, and I'm really looking forward to this course.

My experience in social work, has been advocating for myself and my partner. Doing everything I could to connect him with the services that had been withheld from him, during his life. Now I am working towards being an autistic autism advocate for increased services and quality of life for all people, starting with those of us on the autism spectrum, and including people with developmental disabilities, learning disorders, mental illness. Then my advocacy will hopefully end up including all marginalized populations.

My experience in social work is only three years working for Tehama County. I worked in Adult Services for one year, two years in Child Welfare. Most of my work has been with families either helping them support and elderly loved one or supporting them to get their children returned. I am looking forward to continued learning on mental health aspects of social work.

Hello,
Most of my social work experience has been in the community and/or family services field with the majority of it being in child welfare. All of my professional experience has been working in Tribal Communities..... that will change in about a month when I take a position at Oregon DHS as an Active Efforts Specialist for ICWA compliance.

I do not have experience working in a clinical setting, although I have extensive experience in assessment and case planning across a variety of fields including education, child welfare, youth wellness, domestic violence and adult service among others.

I have worked in Child Welfare as a social worker and social worker supervisor for over 7 years. The majority of my experience has been investigations and case management, using evidence based assessment tools and different techniques of information gathering, to help determine children and family strengths and needs. Through these many times referrals to a clinical setting is made. I am looking forward to learning more about clinical social work and improving my ability to help families.

Hello Everyone! My clinical experience has been in the Behavioral Health world. I'm have experience in assessment using a variety of assessment tools, treatment planning, individual counseling and crisis intervention. Currently I oversee 2 Units for Mendocino Counties Drug and Alcohol program: School based Adolescent Intervention/Treatment and the other Unit provides Drug and Alcohol treatment for all of the parents referred through the Child Welfare System.
