It is not a ethical delimma that happened to me ,but it happened to one of my classmateS in secondary school. She(ming xue ) was a slow leaner, and she often giggling and make funny sounds, everyone ,including the teacher told us she has mental illness, thus, we all excluded her and laughed at her in private, which is totally wrong and i feel shameful of myself. One day we were having history class and she was named by the teacher to answer the question, however, she did not answer and made funny sounds ,everyone bursted into laugh ,so was she.The teacher was so angry and felt humiliated i thought, he asked her to get out and do not come back without permission, she refused ,then the teacher came straight at her and dragged her outside the classroom, the classroom suddenly became so quiet and nobody dare to breath .She cried and shouted loudly like a crazy person in the hallway that we can hear her inside the classroom.

Now when i thought about it.It is not right, what we did to her and what the teacher did to her is so wrong and we should not have done that.As classmates we should never laugh at her and make fun of her at school and should definitely not exclude her .Teachers should not tell us that she is not normal and tell us to not play with her ,which is violating the teaching ethical code and it is a huge mistake as an educator. Sadly i never met her again, i hope she is doing well, because she always has the most beautiful smile and she seems always so happy, despite all the harm we did to her.

I want to share a ethical dilemma that happened to my classmate in high school. She has difficulties learning and thinking. When the teacher asked her to answer the question, she thought a long time then she replied to differently. After that, many students laughed, and they do not like talking with her. Also, the teacher always tries embarrassed her. To be honest, me and my friend tried to help and talk with her but she felt sadness, and she has a lack of self-confidence. This attitude from students and the teacher should not happen. In my opinion, this is the teacher responsibility; she should try to explain to her how to answer the question and understand her situation and prevent students laughed to her because that can hurt her feelings and may be she does not like to study anymore.
Nouf

My ethical dilemma is very similar to one of the videos. There is a student in my class who lives a long way from school, when it is raining she does not attend as her sisters have to walk her because their Mum works. This means that she misses lots of school especially over the winter months. I solved this dilemma by asking around to see what other families lived nearby and found out there was a friend of the girl who lived up the same street who comes to school with his Grandmother every day. The grandmother knows the girl and her family but did not realise what was happening. We were able to communicate with them both so that the girl now comes to school with the boy and his grandmother and is able to attend whatever the weather!

There was an ethical dilemma happened at university testing classroom. It was a final testing, and I found that my friend sitting in front of me was glancing repeatedly at her neighbor's paper without noticing. As a student, I should tell the supervisor. But as a friend, I feel pressure on our relationship and I know she will pay for this. I'd better to ignore this situation instead of speaking it out. It was really tough experience. I did not tell the supervisor at that moment. After finish the test, I talked to her and listened to her that what is the reason for her to do this. I do not know what's the best way to solve this dilemma. What would you do in this situation?

One day, I found that she is smoking on the way to school. I was shocked for a few minutes. And after that I found that she is not the only teacher who smokes. The good thing is they never smoke in the school and also never hide their habits after school.

Well coming from the Early Childhood industry, its a common scenario esp when it comes to children's sleeps. One particular day a parent requested not to put her two year old daughter to sleep that afternoon, reason being if she sleeps in the centre, she does not sleep until very late which affects parents sleep. On other hand the child really enjoys her afternoon sleep

I feel that the inclusive team-teaching environment I work in throws up ethical dilemma every day. I am in Foundation with 2 other teachers for the 3 grades. Foundation is the first year of schooling in Australia and as this is the case funding for students takes time to filter through. There is one student with very high needs who is very volatile. He is not funded yet but takes all the time of the ES in the classroom. The other 2 student who have already received funding get no time from the ES. The dilemma I face every day is should I allow the ES in the room to support the funded students. If I allow her to work with them the other student will become dysregulated as he requires constant 1:1 support. If he does not receive this, he will begin to turn over chairs and lash out and hurt other students. So, every day I decide for the safety of the other students the ES has to support the student that is yet to receive funding.

I interact with all of their family, and some clients can often misunderstand where the boundaries might lie outside of a therapeutic relationship. This is totally understandable however, as we're in individuals homes it makes it hard for boundaries to be set. I had a clients mother try to add me on social media, I have mine all on private so I declined her invite. When she asked me about it I simply said that I didn't really use social media and I directed her to go and follow our business instagram page instead!

A student swore at a teacher He swears a lot and it is a way of him self destructing in order to being sent home. Once he starts - he digs the hole bigger by continual bad behaviour. My dilemma was he was to attend an afternoon session at the senior college as preparation for transition from year 9 to year 10. I allowed him to attend even though his morning behaviour was not ok. I did not want to disregard the swearing and bad behaviour although I wanted to teach the student that just because you make one mistake, you don't have to continue down that path and you can redeem yourself.

I had faced an ethical dilemma when I was a teacher in an English institution for children in China. Usually, teachers show some English videos at break time. One time, while a girl was crying because she thought the cartoon character in the video was disgusting, others believed the character was interesting. Both sides were right in that they had the right to choose what they want to watch. Thus, I changed this a controversial video to another one, which was liked by every student.

A couple of years ago I was teaching a coeducational Foundation (prep) class.
I had one male student with a diagnosis of autism with attached funding for some support. A new student started at the school and had not come from the schools feeder kinder. She displayed similar needs as my other student but as yet had not had a diagnosis. The notes from her kinder hinted at concerns but the parents had not responded to suggestions for an assessment. They felt that as an only child of older parents that their daughter may need more time to mature. As term 1 progressed it was evident that this student was needing as much assistance with learning and everyday tasks as my funded student. Her social development and interactions were immature and often aggressive. I had been communicating this to the parent over the term and discussing my concerns with the school's psychologist. The dilemmas here were a) to have a meeting with the principal to get support for an assessment b) approach the parents re our concerns c) duty of care to this student and the rest of the class d) following and implementing the guidelines in relation to students with additional needs and in particular, autism, e) developing a community of support for this student through an IEP as well as f)future planning.
This story does to some extent have a happy ending as all these things came to pass by term 3. But the struggle I faced to ensure this happened and that I was listened to especially by the school was exhausting.
Rita

I work in a special school p-12 setting. I build close relationships with our students and the relationship with the intellectually disabled and their teacher is different to mainstream high school students. Students are always trying to be friends with you, particularly on social media. I have made a rule that I will accept some 'friendships' on social media only after they have graduated year 12. As I do have some ex students on social media I do only post tame pictures-not parties etc, more landscapes, pets etc. Another dilemma is students wanting physical contact- hugs. We know we are not suppose to hug students however it feels inherently wrong to deny the attention they crave- it is important input for some of our students but it does always make you wonder if it is ok.

As a behaviour therapist I spend a rather large amount of time in people's homes (>6 hours each week) working with their children . Although I haven't had a major ethical dilemma come my way yet as I am only fairly new to the field I face small ethical questions on a regular basis.
Our ethics code states that therapist-client relationships must be only a working relationship and there is to be no exchange of social information or gifts between client and therapist. At least once a week I am in a situation where I need to evaluate the ethics of a particular situation between myself and a client or their parents. Is this card made by a child considered a gift? a colleague of mine accepted a hand-made card and when he opened it it had cash inside and she had to awkwardly give the money back which damaged the perceived relationship the client had with the therapist.

I worked for ten years at a school with many disadvantaged students and families. Many families have been in the area their whole lives. This has resulted in many teachers growing up with many of these families.
It was common for teachers to speak of parents and students disparagingly. Often Foundation students were already labeled based on older siblings or parents.
Many of these students did not start school with 'a clean slate'. At times I challenges this, however it was not usually taken seriously, 'Oh, yes, but you you didn't grow up here. We know the family- they're all like that' and so on.
It was part of the culture at the school and it was really uncomfortable. I voiced my thoughts sometimes, but I wish I had of championed more of these students in this setting.

As someone who consults with teachers and classrooms on behalf of student with disabilities, I often find myself in ethical dilemmas and situations that do not align with my personal morals. I have one instance that stands out where myself and my colleagues were supporting a student in kindergarten who was diagnosed with ASD and did not speak verbally. The kinder was having a mother's day performance and my client's mother had texted myself and my colleagues that night before letting us know that she had been called into court as part of her work and she would have to miss the mother's day performance. She asked us to work 1:1 with her son so that he was not the only student performing in the class without his mother and to avoid him becoming upset and realising his mum was not there. My colleague and I happily worked with the child 1:1 away from the performance, however the kinder teacher came and asked for the child to be brought into the performance so that the kinder could show that they were "including him". Even though this teacher knew it was not the wishes of the child's parent for him to participate in the performance alone, she wanted to look good and include the child with a disability. This is not inclusive education.
