In the article it goes on to explain how the first known instance of anybody playing golf with a disc/Frisbee occurred when someone named Ronald Gibson and his friends from elementary school in Canada would throw tin plates at designated targets like trees or fence posts. As him and his fiends went there separate ways the game ended. The article starts to explain that the modern era of the sport began in the early 1960's and students the the Rice University in Texas would hold tournaments with trees as targets dating back to 1963. Also in the early 1960's players in August, Georgia specifically in the Pendleton King Park would use Frisbee's and throw them into targets made of 50 gallon trash barrels. The article explains a person named Kevin Donnelly who was not known for being a pioneer of the sport until 2011 this section briefly explains how Kevin went on to hold professional level tournaments in Newport Beach, California. The most well known people that helped the sport are "Steady Ed" Headrick he was responsible for the very first introduction of the modern day basket (as pictured) he also founded the major professional bodies such as the DGA, PDGA, RDGA. the other well known figure is Dave Dunipace who created the first modern day golf disc in the year 1983. George Sappenfied was a recreational consular during a summer break from college. He would go on and contact Wham-O Manufacturing and they ended up helping by supplying Frisbees to be used for throwing and hula hoops as targets. The rest of the article has more information on other organizations and how the individuals listed helped evolve the game more and more.
