In this chapter, masculinity is mean and teasing. This is shown when Roger throws rocks at the littluns but never actually aims at them, always around them. The chapter also shows a little bit of kindness when Maurice felt like what they were doing was wrong.
Masculinity is pride. When the fire went out all the boys felt as though they hadn't done anything wrong because they were so full of pride.

In this chapter, masculinity seems to be brave because they didn't seem scared about not having adults around or surviving (within the big guns mostly). They also were not very ashamed of them selves because they all got naked eventually in front of each other. There is also the fact that they decided who was to be the chief; strong vs. weak/strong overcomes the weak.
