I wonder about the practicality of all these tools. I feel like I have a broad idea of what is out there but I can’t say I know how to use any of them. It would be ideal to understand best practices per grade. As a k teacher (Spanish) my needs are completely different to those who teach higher grades in native language.

As of now, the plans for reopening our schools are geared toward an hybrid model with half of the student population in school and half of them at home with the possibility of going all remote, if conditions worsen. My most pressing concern/challenge is how to engage the students at home.

As of now, our district is leaning toward returning to school in a hybrid model, with the option of transitioning to full remote should the situation require. Thinking of rising 5th graders, my biggest concerns relate to how to design instruction that could be implemented easily in either environment while increasing engagement. Where can we get the most bang for our buck? Keeping tools simple, but yet engaging? I'd love to know if anyone here has created or used Bigmoji classrooms? Are they easy to create? Are they effective? Engaging? What are some effective discussion strategies that are adaptable to a digital format?

Thank you,
Colleen

Our teachers have been working hard on PD all summer, however, bringing all that they learned together can be challenging! I want to help provide ways for teachers to feel comfortable experimenting and trying some of the new tools or techniques for delivering instruction once we return in the fall. I worry that the stress and anxiety will push teachers back into the “familiar” and away from lesson design that is more appropriate for concurrent or remote learning.

I too wonder what the ideal way to cover science/chemistry lessons will be. I have an enormous amount of resources but spend a ton of time curating them and trying to figure out the best one. Sometimes there are too many choices and I’m overwhelmed about which to chose. Also, we are now teaching a year long course in nine weeks with 25 hours less time than a normal year, so trying to edit the curriculum is very challenging.
