[1.] Oedipus got his name after his father found out that Oedipus was destined to him. Oedipus’s parents bounded his feet together and sent him away. This left him with swollen feet, which in Greek is Oedipus.

[2.] The Delphic Oracle tells Oedipus that he will his father and marry his mother. In order to avoid this he moves to Thebes where he accidentally kills his father and marries his mother.

[3.] One of the major themes of the book is sight because the people that can actually see like Oedipus cannot really interpret what is happening but the blind Tiresias cant see everything for what it really is.

[4.] When Oedipus learns that his wife is his mother and he has killed his father
he rips his eyes out.
