He should instead just just look at the audience at talk to the audience

Since he's reading mainly off the slide, he isn't really going through anything slightly off topic. Most of his enthusiasm is lost when he either questions himself, repeating his slide, or explaining the book (which we already know by now). When presenting, a orator needs to engage the audience with either humor. questions, or some form of interactivity.
