The Panama Canal is the most popular tourist attraction, since you can swim in the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean in the same day. About 4 million people live in Panama. The capital of Panama is Panama City. Panama is one of the most forested countries in the world, being 63% jungle. Those jungles are home to 4 species of sloth, one of which, the Pygmy 3-toed sloth, being endangered.

Panama values their independence very much, since they had to break away from Spain, and then they had to break away from Columbia. This means they have 2 independence days. They celebrate Mothers’ Day on December 8^th this year. Martyr's Day, celebrated on January 9th, is one of the most widely celebrated holidays in Panama. Martyr's Day is in memorial of the people who were killed in January, 1964, when there was a clash between Canal Zone police officers and locals. The locals were flying American flags, and wouldn't let anyone take them down, setting up guards to stop anyone who tried.

Sancocho de Gallina is one of Panama's traditional meals. It is made of gallina (chicken), yams, culantro, water, and salt. People usually add onions, oregano, and celery to add more flavoring. Panama is home to many very talented artists and has a rich history of music. The most traditional genres include tamborito and tipico. Tomborito is a little drum, and includes lots of dancing. Tipico, also known as pindin, is not only traditional, but a very popular genre. It is played at nearly everywhere you go, and is about lost love.

Panama is pretty different than the United States. You've got land in Panama that is mostly jungles, and land in America that is filled with cities. All sorts of cultures live in America, and that's because America gives them the right to practice their traditions. In Panama, the primary language is Spanish, although you could get away with speaking English. Here, most people are only going to know English. It is interesting how Panama celebrates Mother's Day on a different day, but it goes to show how things are different in different countries. The music in Panama differs in Panama because more people prefer the same genres, but in America everyone has a different genre.
