Joell Christopher Ortiz (born July 6, 1980) is an American rapper and a former member of the group Slaughterhouse. Ortiz grew up in the Cooper Park Houses in the East Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York, formerly signed to Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment record label. He was featured in the Unsigned Hype column of the March 2004 issue of The Source Magazine and was also selected as Chairman's Choice in XXL Magazine.

Joell released his street album called The Brick: Bodega Chronicles on April 24, 2007, on Koch Records. The album was recorded while Joell was trying to get signed and going through some tough times personally

Although he was signed to Aftermath Entertainment, Dr. Dre allowed him to release the street album on Koch Records. The Brick features production by Showbiz, The Alchemist, Domingo, Ho Chi from Killahertz Productions, Lil' Fame of M.O.P., Novel, and Moss, among others. Guest spots include Big Daddy Kane, Styles P, Big Noyd, M.O.P, Akon, Immortal Technique, Grafh, Ras Kass, Stimuli, and Novel.

Of that band’s work. Solid stuff from four rappers who have not found kindness in the industry but all of whom have made solid livings in the world of hip hop and deserve much more recognition.

When a newborn child is born parents have to maintain a lot to keep everything in order and to their lives at a normal paste. For example, 5% of the population would like to have a child but most adults have financial problems and either are in debt or can't even help out themselves. When Joell Ortiz was born he was raised in New York with with Puerto Rican parents have were going threw the toughest times with money and schools and trying to pay the rent in time he did some school and dropped out when in high school. When I started listening to Joell he was pinpointing that the struggle is real and you can put your mind to anything as long as you have to guts and the knowledge

Joell Ortiz was previously signed as a solo artist to Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment. Additionally, he is a founding member of the rap super-group Slaughterhouse.

The Brooklyn native has earned much respect and critical acclaim throughout the hip-hop industry through his numerous studio albums and mixtapes. In 2012, Slaughterhouse signed to Eminem’s Shady Records and released their sophomore album, “Welcome to: Our House” which landed at #1 on the Rap and R&B charts while reaching #2 on the Billboard 200.

In 2014, Ortiz released his solo effort “House Slippers” which went on to reach #45 on the Billboard 200. In 2018 Ortiz teamed with producer Apollo Brown to release “Mona Lisa” which became one of the most critically acclaimed hip-hop albums of the year.
